Position Summary: The Lead Structural / Thermal Analysis Engineer mentors a team of engineers, approves the technical work of other engineers and helps create standardized analysis processes for the team. These efforts support clean sheet turbomachinery design as part of our project execution from inception to shipment. In the role, the Lead Engineer will not have direct reports; however, is tasked with ownership of the technical execution on projects and focus on the processes to help improve the overall technical capability of the team. The position requires a deep understanding of the analytical approach for rotating equipment, including but not limited to: FEA, Rotordynamics, thermal analysis, structural analysis, modal analysis, random vibration, bolt design, allowable proof pressure, low and high cycle fatigue, fracture critical component analysis, and damage tolerance. The selected candidate must also be proficient at identifying the appropriate level of effort for the technical task at hand to maximize proficiency of the team.
Key Results Areas:
1. Create standard processes for structural and thermal analytical efforts to meet all requirements, including technical capability, schedule milestones, and budgetary constraints, while helping mentor co-workers on the execution of their projects.
a. Perform review of structural team’s work and approve the output of structural analysis efforts during Technical Deep Dive Reviews.
b. Direct and review the work of other engineers and designers in the layout and detailed design tasks to ensure product meets customer requirements in a cost effective and manufacturable design throughout project.
c. Create analysis plans and develop standard time targets for analysis activities that the structural engineering team will utilized as baseline effort forecasts.
d. Review designs and working drawings to determine that they conform to project stress, thermal and vibrational specifications, and requirements.
e. Complete analytical efforts pertaining to our clean sheet designs and apply engineering principles to define and analyze the design.
f. Adhere to programmatic activities such as maintaining project budgets, schedules, and formal design reviews deadlines.
2. Identify and resolve technical challenges through deep technical turbomachinery knowledge while increasing the technical capability of other engineers on the team.
a. Lead the standardization of technical analysis efforts and apply engineering principles to define and analyze turbomachinery designs of various projects.
a. Will perform challenging calculations involving heat transfer, structural and rotating component stress analysis, aerodynamics, cycle analysis, component sizing, etc.
b. Support the onboarding of new hires in the department to help increase the skillset of the overall engineering organization.
2. Effectively lead a team environment to drive organizational success and improve BN processes.
a. Work with Project Engineers and Project Managers to help the customer fully specify their requirements.
