Under the direction of the Director of Fleet Maintenance, the Maintenance Manager administers the day-to-day operations of the Transit Management of Alexandria (DASH)’s Maintenance department. This role is integral to ensuring ATC vehicles operate safely and efficiently while establishing and maintaining positive employee labor relations. A key focus of this job is fostering employee engagement and recognition, talent development, coaching, administering discipline, resolving employee grievances, and ensuring that maintenance personnel stay current on training initiatives. The Maintenance Manager is a critical partner in recruiting, staffing and the retention of maintenance personnel.
The Maintenance Manager supports the Director of Fleet Maintenance, supervises Maintenance Shop Supervisors, and offers direction and guidance to all departmental staff. Overall, this position ensures that DASH maintains the highest quality of service and satisfactory customer experience by maintaining the ATC fleet.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Oversees the day-to-day operations for the TMA maintenance department ensuring maintenance and fleet operations moves safely and efficiently. Regularly communicates maintenance operational status and service issues to the Director of Fleet Maintenance.
Supervises Maintenance Shop Supervisors, administers and tracks employee training and development, engagement, retention, performance, feedback, discipline, course correction, and ensures effective and productive labor relations.
Ensures compliance with Company policies and procedures, employee handbook, and Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA); conducts investigations and handles grievances and progressive discipline in accordance with Company policy, procedures, and CBA.
Monitors and oversees that vehicles are available for service needs, work orders and repairs are being completed, and that vehicle records are being maintained. Reports to and coordinates with Director to address related issues.
Leads in the response and communication of departmental incidents, accidents, and emergencies.
Reports incidents, accidents, and emergencies, as necessary, to the Deputy Director and/or Director.
Ensures maintenance personnel stays aligned with departmental short and long-term goals.
Manages and assesses the daily progression of established maintenance fleet programs while ensuring safety of maintenance personnel and vehicle performance.
Administers performance reviews, evaluations, goal settings and development, and regularly provides constructive feedback and guidance as needed.
Tracks, prepares, and verifies accuracy of maintenance personnel payroll data including timesheets, schedules, leave, time off, hours worked, overtime, and employee reimbursements.
Effectively communicates and addresses changes and discrepancies with Payroll and Human Resources.
Ensures the proper documentation and retention of performance records for maintenance personnel including attendance, training, discipline, evaluations, and commendations records.
In collaboration with Human Resources, assists in the effective and efficient recruitment and selection efforts of maintenance personnel. Leads the onboarding, orientation, and training of department new hires.
Manages, tracks, and records maintenance personnel work schedules to ensure all shifts maintain adequate coverage levels; administers the quarterly incentives, and annual awards program.
Manages, tracks, and reports attendance such as extended leave, worker’s compensation, medical, unpaid leave requests, etc. to Human Resources and Payroll. Continuously monitors, addresses, and reports staffing levels as they relate to service and attendance.
Prepares written communication regarding maintenance status and updates via email, memorandums, text messages, and other general correspondence methods as needed.
Ensures the compliance and application of all state, federal and local laws, rules, and regulations including OSHA, DOL, EEO, DOT, FTA and FMSCA, etc.
