As an Anesthesia Technician, you will support the Anesthesiologist and other healthcare staff by sterilizing, cleaning, assembling, calibrating and troubleshooting various pieces of machinery used in procedures. You will work within different types of ORs, offering an opportunity to see new and exciting environments every day. You will also provide some patient support by helping with positioning on operating tables during surgery. This position is an excellent steppingstone to others in the department and beyond.   

A caregiver in this position works evenings from 6 a.m. -- 2:30 p.m., with on-call requirements. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Stock the carts and surgical suites with the required supplies as outlined on the anesthesia surgical suite stock par list. 
  • Assist with difficult airway management by assisting with equipment needs from the providers. 
  • Assist in the delivery of blood samples to the lab and retrieval of blood products. 
  • Disassemble, decontaminate and sterilize anesthesia equipment and supplies. 
  • Report equipment problems to the management team, stock items in the workroom and keep the workroom clean and in an orderly condition. 
  • Perform Point of Care (POCT) testing procedures after an initial approved competency has been completed. 
  • Effectively communicate with anesthesia and OR staff to assure daily operating room assignments are prioritized at the start of each shift.  
  • Efficiently transport all anesthesia related equipment and supplies to and from outside of Operating Rooms off-site locations. 
  • Maintain complete and accurate records and check the status of orders and equipment. 
  • Maintain anesthesia supplies by establishing inventory levels, requisitioning supplies and restocking supplies. 
  • Maintain equipment by preparing, testing and setting up a variety of anesthetic equipment for surgical use, troubleshooting equipment for problems or repairs and performing preventative maintenance and routine cleaning. 
  • Participate in turning over rooms assuring minimal downtime between cases. 
  • Retrieve and appropriately distribute the equipment necessary to prepare a patient for anesthesia. 
  • Retrieve, carry and appropriately distribute necessary medications to the Anesthesiologist, CRNA or AA for the preparation or care of a patient for anesthesia. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or GED and one year of experience working in a healthcare setting or successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or similar healthcare-related training program OR Bachelor’s Degree. 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association (AHA). 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Knowledge of medical terminology 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, or PowerPoint 
  • Direct care and/or surgical experience
