Job Description:
What You’ll Do
Responsible for supporting oversight of credit strategies across the bank and within specific Business Units. The role aids the Chief Credit Officer to develop key deliverables such as strategic and operating plans and craft presentations for key stakeholders (e.g., Management Committees, Discover's Board of Directors). Works under minimal supervision.
Develops and coaches teams to be able to identify, manage, and escalate risk, and effectively manages risk within the teams you oversee.
How You’ll Do It
Define and scope project requests, work with the team to develop workplans, delegate workstreams, and execute some workstreams. Structure analyses, frame data requests, and develop fact based solutions and recommendations.
Assist senior leaders to translate ambiguous requests into clearly defined problem statements. Develop, implement, and maintain an ongoing screening and prioritization mechanism for new project opportunities.
Track implementation of key initiatives developed based on team recommendations. Lead group meetings that include senior executives.
Serve as an advisor for the Credit Risk Oversight leadership team in identifying and evaluating improvement opportunities. Create and manage a rapid response capability that can deliver value-added industry and competitive analysis in response to urgent ad hoc requests.
Develop, implement, and maintain an ongoing screening and prioritization mechanism for new project opportunities that enables periodic realignment of business development / internal consulting resources based on changing corporate, and credit risk priorities. Construct and achieve effective adoption of strategic planning / performance improvement tools and processes to enable Credit Risk Management - both 1st and 2nd lines of defense - to achieve strategic objectives.
Facilitate the delivery and effective use of training and best practice sharing for the assessment of opportunities and the application of process improvement analysis. Serve as a thought partner to the Vice Presidents and Senior Vice Presidents in Credit Risk management to identify, structure, and manage delivery of analysis that will drive key decisions.
Coordinate with business unit project management teams and line of business finance teams to track and evaluate the implementation of key initiatives stemming from the team's analysis. Track progress against the annual plan.
Manage the creation of presentations to the Chief Credit Risk Officer and other members of the Discover Financials Services Management Committee on Credit Risk performance and key issues.
Qualifications You’ll Need
The Basics
Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences or related.
6+ years in Financial Services, Management Consulting, or related experience
2+ years People Management or related experience
In Lieu of Education, 8+ years of Financial Services, Management Consulting, or related experience.
