Senior Research Scientist

Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) seeks a talented and goal-oriented individual to join our team. The selected candidate will work closely with contractor and NASA staff to contribute to the development, testing, and maintenance of atmospheric data. 

 Required Qualifications: 

• Ph.D. degree in atmospheric science, oceanography or other Earth science discipline, mathematics or computational science and two years of scientific experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
• Extensive expertise in scientific programming using modern FORTRAN, reasonable familiarity with C++ ; and good understand of object oriented programming. 
• Extensive experience with use of Git repositories.  
• Demonstrable ability to engage in a highly collaborative environment.  
• Demonstrable skills in good software practices. 
• Demonstrable understanding and prior experience working within the context of large-scale data assimilation methods.

Physical Requirements:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to touch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
