Principal Member of the Technical Staff / Software Developer 4
OracleAbout the role
As a Principal Software Development Engineer (IC4), you will take ownership of designing, implementing, and operating core components of our streaming infrastructure—driving scalability, resiliency, and low-latency performance across distributed environments. You will lead major features and services through the full development lifecycle, from architecture and design to deployment, observability, and production operations.
In this role, you are expected to provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and influence engineering best practices across the team. You’ll bring deep experience in distributed systems, strong programming fundamentals, and a mindset focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement. This position offers the opportunity to shape key architectural decisions, guide the evolution of our platform, and help develop the next generation of OCI’s cloud infrastructure.
What You’ll Do- Lead the design, development, and operation of core features and services for our streaming platform, ensuring production-grade performance, durability, and efficiency at scale.
- Own end-to-end delivery of complex projects—requirements, architecture, implementation, testing, rollout, monitoring, and ongoing operations.
- Debug high-impact production issues, elevate observability and instrumentation, and drive improvements to operational maturity across the platform.
- Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers, providing code reviews, design coaching, and knowledge-sharing to elevate the technical bar.
- Drive reliability, automation, and process optimization initiatives, including tooling, CI/CD improvements, configuration management, and architectural simplification.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to influence product direction, communicate tradeoffs, and align on platform-level technical decisions.
- 8+ years of hands-on software development experience in distributed systems, infrastructure platforms, or cloud services.
- Deep proficiency in at least one major programming languages- Java and Python ( or similar), with a strong track record of shipping and owning production services.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts—streaming ingestion and delivery, partitioning, fault tolerance, consensus, performance tuning, and observability.
- Able to drive architectural decisions by analyzing tradeoffs across latency, throughput, durability, consistency, and cost.
- Highly skilled in debugging complex distributed systems, interpreting logs/metrics/traces, and identifying systemic root causes.
- Effective mentor and team-level technical leader who influences engineering culture, supports peers, and fosters shared technical excellence.
- Experience in large-scale streaming
- Familiarity with event-driven systems, time-series semantics, and high-throughput data pipelines.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), and modern observability stacks (metrics, logs, tracing).
- Background in incident management, operational readiness reviews, SRE practices, or reliability engineering for distributed systems.
