Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems is offering a unique career opportunity for a Sr Principal Engineer Network – Network Engineer SME (25-067) to join our team of diverse individuals. This position, which will be based in Colorado Springs, CO, offers the chance to work on the Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program, a vital operational system that supports the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. As a Network Engineering SME, you will play a crucial role in this mission, supporting a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. Your work will be integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.

As a Network Engineering SME, the candidate will be at the forefront of network design, helping solve complex technical problems, leading team members in technical execution, and helping train engineers with less experience.  The candidate will work within an agile team and plan work based on customer requirements and program contractual agreements. This role offers significant opportunities for growth and learning in a dynamic and challenging environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Apply extensive expertise and solve complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
  • Function in project leadership roles and represent the organization as prime customer contact on significant technical matters on contracts
  • Must help junior engineers with tasks if needed
  • Plan, deploy, integrate, and test upgrades to the C2BMC network to operational sites
  • Travel to remote locations to lead and perform network installations, independently perform troubleshooting, and provide status updates to Program personnel
  • Create, maintain, and present KPIs and other metrics related to the Network Enterprise
  • Must be an effective communicator with excellent writing and presentation skills using Microsoft PowerPoint and Visio drawing tools

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline preferred from an accredited university and 8 years of related work experience or a Master’s degree in a related discipline and 6 years of experience, or 12 years of related work experience instead of a degree may be considered
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start with the ability to obtain Top Secret clearance upon starting
  • DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (Security+ CE, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CCNA-Security, CND, CySA+, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA, etc.) is required to start
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs
  • Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment with other highly motivated network engineers and independently on large field projects
