About the Role
We’re looking for a Staff AI Engineer to lead the development of internal AI tools that transform how product development happens at Amplitude. Product teams—engineers, designers, and product managers—spend significant time on fragmented, manual tasks like synthesizing feedback, drafting PRDs, and validating impact. This role exists to embed AI directly into those workflows: automating the repetitive, amplifying human judgment, and helping Amplitude operate as an AI-native company.
You’ll be both a visionary and a builder—identifying what’s possible before it's asked for, while also delivering practical, high-leverage tools. You’ll improve foundational workflows across teams while contributing to the long-term strategy and infrastructure behind Amplitude’s AI systems.
What You’ll Do
- Ship impactful AI tooling that streamlines and improves product development workflows—helping engineers, designers, and PMs move faster and smarter
- Identify high-leverage opportunities by deeply understanding internal pain points and designing solutions that embed AI seamlessly into day-to-day work
- Build foundational infrastructure for internal AI tools—scalable, privacy-aware systems integrated with platforms like Salesforce, Jira, Zoom, Productboard, and Slack
- Establish reusable patterns and components to enable other teams to extend and build on top of your work, fostering a culture of bottom-up AI tooling
- Drive adoption and continuous improvement through close collaboration, iteration, and a focus on real usage
- Partner with the product-facing AI team to share internal learnings and contribute to our broader AI platform and strategy
Who You Are
You are a highly capable engineer with a strong track record of delivering AI-powered systems and internal tooling. You bring a deep understanding of product workflows, exceptional technical instincts, and a forward-thinking mindset.
Experience & Skills
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, 2+ years LLM/Applied AI
- Skilled in building and scaling internal platforms, developer tools, or productivity systems
- Deep familiarity with modern AI ecosystems
- Strong product sense and systems thinking—you know when to prototype and when to invest in durable infrastructure
- Excellent communicator and collaborator, able to drive alignment across engineering, design, and product
How You Think & Work
- Tooling is leverage: You believe great tools reshape how teams think, plan, and execute
- Context is key: You understand that AI is most powerful when grounded in a team’s real data, workflows, and decisions
- Vision leads utility: While you listen closely to users, you also anticipate their needs and lead with creative, forward-looking solutions
- Build to learn: You favor fast iteration, usage-based validation, and continuous improvement<
