About the role

Responsible for performing a combination of supervised, progressively more complex, and independent patient evaluation, management and research activities in a specialized field of medicine. 


Principal Accountabilities:


1. Requires completion of medical school as a Medical Doctor., completion of internship, and eligibility for the residency program. 
2. Maintains required certification and licensure as required by the program. 
3. Takes medical history of patient and makes physical assessment of patient's condition. 
4. Makes notations regarding medical treatment in the patient's medical record. 
5. Administers prescribed medications and medical treatments in accordance with approved medical techniques. 
6. Applies cost containment measures in the provision of patient care. 
7. Participates in the educational activities of the training program and may assume responsibility for teaching and supervising other residents, interns, and students. 
8. Participates in research activities as required by the residency program. 
9. Participates in institutional committees and councils as assigned. 
10. Other relevant duties as assigned

Education/Experience: 

  • Residents must have a B.S Pharm or Pharm.D. degree from an accredited college of pharmacy
  • previous experience as a pharmacy technician or intern is desired, but not required, 
  • must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of New Jersey. If not licensed the candidate must be licensed within 2 months of starting their residency. 
  • Residents should display evidence of above average academic performance and professional society activity.


1. Must meet the program requirements for both residency education and certification. 
2. Specific requirements for residency training vary by program, although several months are spent in required rotations in each of the following areas: obstetrics, pediatrics, general surgery, and inpatient hospital care in CCUs or ICUs. 
3. Residents spends a few nights per month on call and on rotation throughout the hospital. 
4. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be specialized based on department/specialty area assigned including Pharmacy, Spiritual Care, Cardiology, Dentistry, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, ER, Family Medicine, Internal medicine, Radiology, OB/GYN, Podiatry, Sports Medicine, Surgical Services, and/or Urogynecology 

Skills:
1. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. 
2. Excellent communications skills 
3. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel. 
4. Ability to read and interpret documents. 
5. Ability to speak effectively. 
6. Ability to work independently.
