Job Description / Summary
The Physician Liaison is responsible for developing and maintaining strong referral relationships between the orthopedic practice and external healthcare providers, including primary care physicians, specialists, urgent care centers, and hospital systems. The liaison serves as the key point of contact to promote the practice’s services, facilitate communication, and support strategic growth by increasing patient referrals and enhancing the practice’s visibility in the medical community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic outreach plans to build referral relationships with targeted providers. Identify targets, create tactics and track progress towards improving measurable objectives (referrals rates, number of referring providers, etc)
- Develop new referral networks while nurturing relationships with current referral sources – including participation in hospital system partnership activities, as needed.
- Act as a representative of the orthopedic practice in the community at meetings, networking events, and applicable industry functions.
- Visit referring and potential referring providers regularly to promote services, gather feedback, and identify opportunities for collaboration.
- Identify and address any workflow/system issues that hinder/slow the process for referring providers and gather feedback for continuous service improvement.
- Communicate with providers and staff to address service concerns, streamline referral processes, and ensure a high level of satisfaction. Participate in the resolution of service complaints.
- Maintain a comprehensive database of contacts and interactions through CRM tools.
- Work closely with marketing and administrative teams to develop promotional materials and campaigns.
- Assist with onboarding new providers by promoting their services to referring networks. Develop outreach plans for new providers, provide necessary coordination to facilitate outreach, monitor progress and update plans as appropriate.
- Coordinate continuing medical education (CME) events, physician seminars, or open houses as needed and applicable to the role in the market
- Monitor and analyze referral patterns, market trends, and competitor activities.
- Provide regular reports to leadership on outreach activities, referral trends, and key metrics.
- Gather and distribute competitive intelligence, covering factors impacting the territory, business threats, and pertinent information to the relevant practice leadership
- Collaborate with SCA Growth Team on enterprise growth initiatives relevant to OA practices
Performance Metrics:
- Growth in referral volume and new referring provider relationships.
- Timeliness and quality of provider follow-ups.
- Provider satisfaction feedback.
- Outreach activity logs and CRM updates.
- Contributions to strategic growth initiatives.
Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations
Valid Ohio Driver’s license or valid driver’s license from another state and ability to secure an Ohio Driver’s License within 30 days of assuming this job. Must maintain in force at all times personal automobile liability insurance coverage at levels acceptable to the company.

Working Conditions:
- Primarily field-based with travel to local provider offices and events (company vehicle or mileage reimbursement provided).
- Office and administrative work as needed.
- Occasional evening or weekend hours for events or meetings.
