Job Description
Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing skilled work operating light to heavy equipment used to excavate, load, transfer, or move dirt, gravel, or other material in the maintenance or construction of streets and public properties. May exercise functional supervision over assigned staff.
The Public Works Department is looking to fill multiple positions. Applications from this posting will be used to fill various vacancies for Street Maintenance and Storm Water Operations Divisions at the Public Works Service Center locations listed below.

Work Hours
7:15 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Monday - Thursday OR Tuesday - Friday OR
(Overnight Shift); 8:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m., Sunday - Wednesday OR Wednesday - Saturday

Essential Job Functions
- Operates various types of road construction equipment, dependent on the class of CDL obtained, such as skid loader, flat wheel roller, pneumatic roller sweepers, oil distributors, and dump trucks to and from work locations, construction sites, etc.
- Performs minor maintenance and service checks on equipment.
- Performs unskilled and semi-skilled labor work related to various maintenance and construction activities such as; pot-hole repair, base and pavement repair, and street maintenance.
- Performs minor maintenance and service checks on equipment.
- Performs unskilled and semi-skilled labor work related to various maintenance and construction activities.
- May prepare a daily log of activities.
- Cleans and removes debris from streets, drainage, ditches, and other areas, frequently lifting materials weighting up to 50 pounds.
- Removes brush and trash from drainage inlets.
- Transports tools and equipment to and from work sites.
- May assist in the placement of barricades, signs, flashers, and safety cones.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
- Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance:
- One (1) year of experience operating light, medium, or heavy equipment.
- Must obtain a Valid Texas Commercial Class "B" Driver's License plus all required endorsements within six (6) months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Class "B" CDL.
- Experience operating street sweepers.
- Experience in street construction/reconstruction.
- Experience with pothole repair.
- Experience operating front-end loaders, skid loaders, double drum rollers, pneumatic rollers, etc.
- Experience operating landscaping/vegetation equipment.
- Experience with hot and/or cold mix asphalt placement and concrete flat work such as sidewalks, foundations, curbs, retaining walls and ADA ramps and specifications.
