Senior Director, Cell Therapy Gene Editing

We are hiring a Senior Director, Cell Therapy Gene Editing with scientific leadership experience in molecular biology and genome engineering to lead the engineering of our cell therapy product candidates. Reporting to the Chief Immunology and Cell Therapy Officer, you will be responsible for leading our Cell Therapy gene editing team. You will leverage your industry and academic experience with different precision genome editing platforms, analysis and interpretation of on/off target genome editing assays, and the use of AAV and other delivery systems to lead the engineering of our therapeutic candidates. This position will play a pivotal role in enabling the use of Metagenomi’s next-generation gene editing platforms to engineer novel cell therapies for the treatment of cancer and auto-immune disorders. This role is based in Emeryville, California.
How you’ll contribute
- Provide strategic leadership to develop and operationalize the application of our genome editing platforms to the engineering of novel cell therapies for the treatment of cancer and auto-immune disorders
- Optimize our current gene editing systems to help maximize the incorporation of multiple gene knock-outs and knock-ins in our therapeutic candidates
- Lead the development and implementation of genome-wide off-target characterization methods to support the development and regulatory path for Metagenomi cell therapies
- Directly contribute to the selection and design of therapeutic candidates
- Motivate and lead a team of talented Scientists and Research Associates
- Partner with our Discovery team to help characterize and implement novel gene editing systems
- Work collaboratively with key stakeholders across the company to deliver pivotal genome editing specificity datasets to support therapeutic candidate development
- Prepare accurate and timely data summaries and contribute to the writing of technical study reports, papers, and patent applications
- Participate in regulatory interaction meetings and provide strategic communication to support IND filings
Must haves:
- Ph.D. in STEM-related discipline and at least twelve years biopharma industry experience
- At least five years of highly relevant experience working with precision gene editing systems and assessing their genome editing specificity, including hands-on experience with on/off target analysis
- Substantial expertise in assessing gene editing efficacy, specificity, and reproducibility
- Track record of successfully operationalizing genome editing characterization workflows and developing study reports supporting regulatory filings
- Exceptional quantitative skills, including experience analyzing large experimental data in partnership with computational biologists to draw statistically significant conclusions
- Extremely organized and able to efficiently manage your time and workflows, including skillfully prioritizing both long-term projects and the day-to-day responsibilities of your team
- Direct supervisory experience leading teams of Scientists and Research Associates with a track record of recruiting, mentoring, and developing talent
- Outstanding communication, collaboration, and team leadership skills.
California Pay Transparency Disclosure:
This position is classified as an exempt salaried position under the Federal Labor Standards Act. The anticipated base salary range for this position will be $245,000 -$265,000. You will also be eligible to receive equity, bonuses, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits depending on the position offered. Please note that individual total compensation for this position will be determined at the Company’s sole discretion and may vary based on location, skill level, years and depth of relevant experience, and education.
