Term Research Technician 2- Pharmacology

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Research Technician 2 assists in studying cellular mechanisms in Alzheimer’s disease neuronal models. 

1. Performs basic lab techniques (Western blots, qPCR, mouse tail PCR genotyping, microscopy, primary neuronal culture, and transcardiac perfusion/histology), surgical skills in microinjection, and mouse behaviors. 
2. Maintains multiple lines of mouse colonies (weaning, genotyping, setting up matings).
3. Prepares primary neuronal cell culture.
4. Performs experiments in primary neuron cells, takes confocal images, and analyzes data.
5. Performs calcium imaging experiments in neurons and established cell models. 
6. Prepares plasmid DNA, cloning, and transfecting cells to establish new cellular models.
7. Maintains lab equipment for experiments including autoclaving laboratory material, cleaning of glassware/plastic ware, and laboratory sanitation.
8. Participates in multiple ongoing projects in the lab.
9. Maintains lab inventory purchases and records.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal four (4) years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Good organization and communication skills.
• Ability to follow directions on experimental protocols or requests from the Principal Investigator.
• Ability to master their work schedule to accomplish goals.

WORK SCHEDULE:  This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
