About the role
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Research Technician 2 assists in studying cellular mechanisms in Alzheimer’s disease neuronal models.
- Performs basic lab techniques (Western blots, qPCR, mouse tail PCR genotyping, microscopy, primary neuronal culture, and transcardiac perfusion/histology), surgical skills in microinjection, and mouse behaviors.
- Maintains multiple lines of mouse colonies (weaning, genotyping, setting up matings).
- Prepares primary neuronal cell culture.
- Performs experiments in primary neuron cells, takes confocal images, and analyzes data.
- Performs calcium imaging experiments in neurons and established cell models.
- Prepares plasmid DNA, cloning, and transfecting cells to establish new cellular models.
- Maintains lab equipment for experiments including autoclaving laboratory material, cleaning of glassware/plastic ware, and laboratory sanitation.
- Participates in multiple ongoing projects in the lab.
- Maintains lab inventory purchases and records.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal four (4) years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Good organization and communication skills.
- Ability to follow directions on experimental protocols or requests from the Principal Investigator.
- Ability to master their work schedule to accomplish goals.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
