About the role

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), seeks a board certified / board eligible physician to provide leadership and oversight of a combined internal medicine-psychiatry residency program. This position is located in Milwaukee, WI. We are comprised of nationally and internationally renowned, dedicated group of faculty and staff with a strong commitment to clinical care.  

This position will also involve clinical practice and supervision of categorical residents in internal medicine and psychiatry, as well as residents in the combined program, in various integrated medical and psychiatric settings. This ensures that residents receive comprehensive training and exposure to integrated care. 

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within diverse clinical environments, emphasizing a dynamic balance of clinical, educational, and administrative responsibilities. The position offers the potential for a dual faculty appointment within Psychiatry and Internal Medicine for qualified and interested candidates, providing substantial opportunities for professional growth, scholarly activity, and meaningful contributions to integrated healthcare delivery.

 

Position Highlights: 

  • Oversee all aspects of program administration and development for the combined Internal Medicine/Psychiatry Residency.

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with ACGME program requirements and maintain accreditation status.

  • Prepare and submit accurate documentation, including ADS (Accreditation Data System) updates and responses to ACGME and Designated Institutional Official (DIO) requests.

  • Mentor residents, offering academic guidance and supporting their professional development.

  • Design and continually update an innovative, integrated curriculum that meets the educational needs of residents and prepares them for dual board certification.

  • Oversee resident schedules, rotations, and call responsibilities in coordination with Internal Medicine and Psychiatry departments.

  • Direct the resident recruitment and selection process through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

  • Oversee the evaluation of resident performance, progression, and remediation as needed.

  • Ensure a safe, supportive, and equitable training environment that promotes wellness and professionalism.

  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration between medical and psychiatric educational programs.

  • Engage in scholarly activities, including research and educational presentations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by Chair or Chair-Designate

Qualifications 

  • Medical degree (MD, DO, or equivalent) from an accredited institution. 

  • Board certification in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry preferred, Board certification in either Internal Medicine or Psychiatry required

  • State medical licensure, or eligibility to obtain license, in the state of Wisconsin. 

  • Rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful finalist.
