As a Senior GIS Advisor, you will work within the GIS Services group and will be responsible for the publishing, reporting and distribution of the integrated GIS data within the UPDM environment to the various stakeholders within the organization utilizing GIS technology. Here’s what you will do:

• Perform a range of technical and support functions relating to the day-to-day maintenance of Enbridge Energy’s enterprise GIS which requires a substantial understanding of spatial data principles, map projections and digital data repositories.

• Apply strong conceptual and practical understanding of spatial and pipeline database design, including relational and spatial data integration, GIS application software development and spatial analysis, data automation procedures, including vector and raster data automation techniques, data standards and quality assurance procedures.

• Liaise with other departments and field operations personnel, providing GIS-related technical and tactical support as needed.

• Prepare, review, and complete a variety of state and federal regulatory mandated data submissions.

• Apply expert analysis skills using advanced GIS software and related products such as advanced spatial and data analysis tools, raster image transformation, thematic mapping and trend analysis in project and operational environments.

• Draft a variety of technical documents, including standard operating procedures, requests for bid, and others as required.

• Work with IT and business to implement new GIS solutions.

Who you are:

• You have:

  • A related bachelor’s degree OR a two-year technical diploma with a minimum of 8 years relevant GIS experience at a pipeline company.

    • For candidates who do not possess a related bachelor’s degree or two-year technical diploma, an additional 3 years of related experience is required.

  • Thorough understanding of both IT and natural gas pipeline key business processes.

  • A thorough understanding of UPDM and other pipeline data models. 

  • Technical competence utilizing GIS for data integration and spatial analysis, automation, and service/viewer creation.

  • Strong skills in using: Word, Excel, and latest Windows Operating System.

• The following are assets:

  • In-depth knowledge of GIS suite of products from ESRI.

  • Strong skills in ESRI’s Enterprise Portal, and Web App Builder and Experience Builder.

  • Extensive knowledge of the GIS industry. Pipeline Industry experience with an understanding of the UPDM data model.

  • Knowledge of supplemental GIS software tools such as: FME, Alignment Sheet Generators

  • Proficiency in Python/FME for automating geoprocesses and creating standardized maps.

  • In-depth knowledge of SQL for accessing and manipulating databases.

  • Extensive knowledge of general maps, U.S.G.S. quadrangle maps, aerial photography, satellite imagery, and lidar.

Working Conditions:

• Work and travel across North America up to 10% of the time.

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

Grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
