About the role

Overview

The Biosciences Division at SRI International is seeking a part-time Research Technician I in Animal Husbandry to join our team in Harrisonburg, Virginia. We are looking for a motivated and dedicated professional eager to work in a collaborative and dynamic environment.

SRI is advancing novel therapeutics and diagnostics in oncology, neuroscience, cardiovascular, and metabolic diseases. The successful candidate will provide critical support services in matters related to animal health and welfare.

Responsibilities

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Feeding and watering of animals.
  • Cage changing and washing.
  • Environmental monitoring.
  • Sanitation of facility and equipment.
  • Waste disposal.
  • Maintain organized and well-stocked procedure rooms.
  • Ensure all instruments and equipment are sanitized and in proper working condition.
  • Promote and ensure animal health, welfare, and proper husbandry practices.
  • Assist with other laboratory tasks as needed

 

Administrative and Regulatory Responsibilities:

 

  • Adhere to all regulatory, ethical, and institutional requirements governing animal care and use.
  • Maintain thorough and compliant documentation to meet regulatory standards.
  • Follow safety, environmental, and infection control procedures at all times.
  • Assist in facility inspections.
  • Maintain open communications with the attending veterinarian, the site director, and facility staff.

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma. Associates degree preferred. Education in life science is advantageous but not required.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Availability to respond to animal needs on weekends and holidays.
  • No known allergies to laboratory animal species.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

 

The salary range is:  /hr. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
