This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Sr. Civil Engineer in Power Generation for our Seattle, WA office. The following location will be considered: Portland, OR. Be involved in projects with our Power and Energy Team and be a part of a part of a rapidly expanding group that provides trusted advisor and engineer of record services to clients in the energy sector throughout the western United States. This a fantastic chance to work with a dynamic team, with access to a modern office, tools and software; while also traveling to job sites in our beautiful mountains and lush river valleys. You will be joining the premier engineering firm that is leading the field in hydropower, pumped storage hydro, solar and batteries, and wind generation in the West.
Your Impact
- Overseeing the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of energy facilities, specifically hydropower, as well as solar, wind or biomass power plants; transmission and distribution substations.
- Help lead hydropower projects, dam safety, spillway and tunnels, and seismic remediation projects.
- Substantiates reports and documentation to advise on material, installations, design, component, and construction specifications.
- Lead a variety of Civil Engineering projects including the planning and completion of inspections and investigations on hydropower structures and other renewable energy developments, determining the safety and efficacy of such facilities or structures, execute rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts, as well as new design and construction projects.
- May mentor and lead advancing team members in Civil Engineering
- This position requires field visit to local sites and the potential for a small amount of overnight travel.
- Strong knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Proficient with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing intricate ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees effectively, persuasively, and tactfully at all levels of the organization.
- Works independently to provide guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
- Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
- Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS), Flow 3D, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant post education experience in civil engineering and design experience.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Engineering or related discipline
- Professional Engineer license required (Oregon, Washington, or California preferred).
