Position Summary
The Senior Software Quality Assurance Engineer (SQAE) is responsible for improving software quality throughout the STERIS IMS business. The individual ensures the IT processes and procedures are implemented and followed correctly within the team(s) and system(s) in which they work. The Senior SQAE works closely with Systems Analysts, business process owners and users to lead software testing and validation efforts. The role performs duties across many areas of the Software Development Lifecycle from requirements gathering to software testing through to delivery with a focus on improving software quality by implementing process improvements. The Senior SQAE must have extensive experience with a variety of technologies including enterprise software products, web applications, desktop applications, mobile applications, database systems and business intelligence tools. This individual also has extensive experience across multiple testing disciplines including advanced topics such as performance and load testing as well as automation.
Duties
Leadership 20%
Implements software quality standards within the software development lifecycle
Implements new policies and processes
Ensures compliance to regulatory controls including but not limited to SOX & ISO 13485
Aggregates, Monitors and Reviews QA metrics
Leads continuous improvement of quality within the SDLC.
Ensures the test environment is adequate for all testing needs
Assists junior team members with their more complex responsibilities and issues.
Mentors junior team members in the principles of software quality assurance.
Recommends changes to tracked QA metrics to support continuous improvement.
Test Planning – 40%
Reviews and evaluates software products and systems to ensure adherence to STERIS-IMS quality standards.
Reviews system designs to identify missing, ambiguous, conflicting or inaccurate requirements or design specifications.
Translates system requirements and designs into detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test cases.
Develops system documentation and test planning across multiple applications to ensure validation within the scope of regulatory requirements..
Reviews system documentation for accuracy and completeness
Reviews test plans written by others to provide feedback
Works closely with Systems Analysts, Business Users, and Developers to improve software quality.
Collaborates directly with business leaders and users to ensure software meets business needs
Follows IT processes and procedures
Oversees the general IT controls processes related to auditing, monitoring, approvals, and validation.

Test Execution – 40%
Executes test plans to perform functional, integration, regression testing
Executes exploratory test sessions.
Identifies, records, and documents defects with an issue tracking system
Monitors and tracks defects to resolution
Documents test cases, test plans and test results with a test documentation tool
Facilitates user acceptance testing sessions
Works with Business Process Owners to obtain and document approval of systems and system changes
Performs defect root cause analysis and suggests potential resolutions to developers
Assists in developing and maintaining an automated testing framework.
Reports metrics to accurately reflect project status.
Coordinates and leads Quality Assurance cycles to ensure applications satisfy end user requirements using a standard process methodology.
Coordinates and Leads activities throughout the SDLC starting with requirements gathering all the way through to delivery for the purpose of identifying and resolving quality issues as early as possible.
A student of software quality tools, processes, and oversight.
Recommends training opportunities for SQAE team members to consider.
Required Experience
At least 7 years experience in agile software development environment.
At least 7 year experience in cross-functional team environment.
Advanced knowledge of relational database concepts
At least 7 years experience in software test planning and execution in Test Rail or other test management tool
At least 7 years experience writing SQL for the purpose of analysis, testing, and troubleshooting.
At least 7 years experience developing and using functional and/or technical documentation
At least 4 years experience in a role responsible for process improvement
At least 2 years experience developing automated tests
