Schedule Details/Additional Information:

The hours will vary based on need, but it will be 8-hour shifts Monday-Friday with occasional weekends.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and three years' phlebotomy experience.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:

  • Phlebotomy Technician certification, ASCP preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conducts practical clinical phlebotomy training and evaluation of new employees and students and monitors progress and performance.
  • Assures efficient and effective operation of phlebotomy services.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge and leadership in all areas of operation.
  • Assures accurate and timely collection of blood specimens, according to departmental practices.
  • Assures accurate identification and delivery of patient samples to appropriate lab sections.
  • Follows proper safety and identification procedures when dealing with patients and/or specimens under any circumstance or environment.
  • Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
  • Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education.
  • Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approval policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases.
  • Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing.
  • Provides age-appropriate specimen collection in accordance with age specific guidelines for school age, adolescents, early adults, middle adults and/or late adults.
  • Adheres to the general Medical Center standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient in use of LIS electronic collection devices and lab reference material.
  • Ability to build cooperation between staff members.
  • Effective oral, written, and listening communications skills.
  • Technical ability and interest Interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Exhibits professional attitude.
  • May require working any shift in a 24-hour period, 7 days/week, including holidays and possibly taking call.

Pay Range

$21.45 - $32.20
