The hours will vary based on need, but it will be 8-hour shifts Monday-Friday with occasional weekends.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent and three years' phlebotomy experience.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:
- Phlebotomy Technician certification, ASCP preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Conducts practical clinical phlebotomy training and evaluation of new employees and students and monitors progress and performance.
- Assures efficient and effective operation of phlebotomy services.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge and leadership in all areas of operation.
- Assures accurate and timely collection of blood specimens, according to departmental practices.
- Assures accurate identification and delivery of patient samples to appropriate lab sections.
- Follows proper safety and identification procedures when dealing with patients and/or specimens under any circumstance or environment.
- Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
- Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education.
- Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approval policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases.
- Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing.
- Provides age-appropriate specimen collection in accordance with age specific guidelines for school age, adolescents, early adults, middle adults and/or late adults.
- Adheres to the general Medical Center standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficient in use of LIS electronic collection devices and lab reference material.
- Ability to build cooperation between staff members.
- Effective oral, written, and listening communications skills.
- Technical ability and interest Interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Exhibits professional attitude.
- May require working any shift in a 24-hour period, 7 days/week, including holidays and possibly taking call.
Pay Range
