Job Description

Montgomery College has an immediate need for a full-time Administrative Manager for the ASVP - Operational Effectiveness & Strategic Initiatives.  The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. This is a non-bargaining, exempt, grade 31 position.  Montgomery College promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, belonging, and inclusiveness. This position is eligible for telework one day a week. This eligibility is subject to change based on the needs of the unit.

This is managerial level work, responsible for managing the daily operations of a functional area, division, and/or office. Under supervision and/or direction, incumbents in this job class provide leadership, oversight and guidance for the day-to-day operations of a functional area and/or division/unit/department, special projects and provides administrative, managerial and/or technical support for systems, processes, communications, meetings and other related activities.  This role typically reports to a VP or higher-level position.

Contacts and interaction vary and may include multiple constituencies such as the general public, higher education associations, Board members, external organizations/agencies, provost, deans, directors, chairs, faculty, staff, or students for the purpose of providing and exchanging information. This is a full-time position with benefits.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provides leadership, oversight and guidance for the day-to-day operations of the area/division/office including but not limited to development and preparation of budgets, purchasing/procurement, assigned staff, communications, formulating and implementing policies and other related activities.
  • Develops and compiles departmental budget, monitors expenditures and coordinates the preparation of monthly reports.
  • Ensures compliance with College’s rules, regulations and established standards.
  • Schedule, assign, inspect and review work of assigned staff to ensure work is performed according to established standards.
  • Identify and implement goals and objectives for the unit.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, formal and informal coaching and recommend disciplinary action. Identify, develop and recommend professional development needs/opportunities and coordinate/conduct training.
  • Conduct recruitment/interviewing and make recommendations to hire.
  • Serve as liaison to external and internal organizations on behalf of area/division/office and represent the College in a variety of activities.
  • Oversee the preparation and collection of materials prepared for action by the College Board of Trustees, department chairs, superiors and/or leadership.
  • Draft and proofread special memoranda, letters, reports, and speeches.
  • Serves as facilitator on projects and other campus related activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five years progressively responsible administrative/managerial/technical experience.
  • Experience working with internal and external groups and supervising and/or leading the work of others.
  • The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
  • Knowledge of critical organizational practices and goals; broad theoretical and technical knowledge.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of technical project management.
  • Knowledge of the College’s mission, vision, and the role of the College within the community, the State of Maryland, and higher education.
  • Excellent leadership, customer service, organizational and presentation skills as well as the ability to lead, instruct, train, guide and motivate others.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

Hiring Range: $79,746 - $103,658 annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity.  The maximum salary for this position is $127,571.
