About the job:
The Aquatics Recreation Supervisor coordinates and supervises aquatic staff and programs, including youth through adult swim lessons, springboard diving, and novice swim team, clinics and special events, providing high quality, safe and enjoyable programs for the community. Serves as front line facility supervisor for staff ensuring that quality, safety and customer service standards are consistently maintained.
A day in the life:
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Manages and oversees all staff in program area, including providing direction and leadership to staff and volunteers.
- Responsible for staff recruitment, training, mentoring, and evaluation.
- Responsible for scheduling and reviewing time and attendance, including managing leave request and time entry approvals and required reports and documentation.
- Leads and oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of aquatics programs and curriculum to meet District goals and deliver best practices.
- Teaches training and certification classes for lifeguards, swim instructors, and other aquatic staff.
- Responsible for aquatic program development, planning and registration, assigning classes, and maintaining records and waitlist management utilizing registration and scheduling software.
- Oversee facility operations; open and close facility; ensures that health, safety, and sanitation standards are maintained; ensures pool and facility operations are functioning properly and efficiently.
- Promotes collaboration efforts with other program areas, departments, agencies, community organizations and businesses.
- Organizes, maintains and purchases program area supplies and equipment. Makes recommendations for larger purchases to Recreation Services Manager.
- Assists in developing, monitoring and managing program or division budgets; manages contracts and allocates resources.
- Contributes to Aquatic and Recreation Center Leadership teams for continuous internal and external communications for program changes and opportunities for program and facility improvements and/or specific enhancements for the District and the community.
- Plans, identifies, recommends, and prioritizes marketing opportunities for aquatics programming.
- Leads communication in a positive and constructive manner with parents, participants, and community and responds to questions, concerns and complaints regarding program service, staff or operations.
- Maintains a safe environment for staff and for participants.
- Provides for the ongoing care and maintenance needs of assigned equipment and resources, including the maintenance of required records and documentation.
- May represent the District at community events and engagements.
- May be assigned special projects as needed.
- Acts as a Mandatory Reporter; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
What you'll need for success:
Strong Knowledge of:
- Principles, development, practices and delivery of progressive community instructional aquatics programs and swimming instructional skills;
- Effective teaching techniques and methods, safety guidance, behavior management, facilitation of inclusion services, and age and developmentally appropriate activities for populations served;
- Effective supervision, training and performance management practices;
- Effective customer service best practices; and
- Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures for assigned program area.
Skill and Ability to:
- Exercise strong initiative and significant independent decision making.
- Demonstrate strong leadership, excellent planning, organization, problem solving, initiative, prioritization and conflict resolution skills.
- Manage a high volume of tasks at one time, including organizing and prioritizing own work and the work of others.
