Job Title: Streetcar Operator Route Supervisor

Summary: The Streetcar Operator Route Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of streetcar routes, ensuring smooth and efficient service delivery. This position supervises streetcar operators, monitors operational performance, ensures adherence to schedules, and handles customer service and safety concerns. The Route Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of public transit services, ensuring operators are well-trained, and responding to emergencies or incidents to minimize disruptions.

Essential Functions:

  1. Supervise Streetcar Operators: Manage a team of streetcar operators, ensuring adherence to company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures. Provide guidance, support, and on-the-job coaching as needed.
  2. Route Monitoring and Performance: Monitor the performance of streetcars on assigned routes, ensuring that operators adhere to schedules, safety regulations, and customer service standards. Address any operational delays, service interruptions, or route deviations promptly.
  3. Operational Coordination: Coordinate with dispatchers and other department personnel to address route issues, service delays, and any changes to the transit schedule. Ensure effective communication during service disruptions or emergencies.
  4. Training and Development: Conduct training sessions for new streetcar operators and ongoing training for existing staff to ensure they are up-to-date with operational procedures, safety standards, and customer service expectations.
  5. Enforce Safety Procedures: Ensure that all safety protocols are followed by streetcar operators, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections, emergency procedures, and traffic law compliance. Respond to accidents or incidents as needed and report findings to management.
  6. Customer Service Management: Address customer complaints, concerns, or inquiries related to service, scheduling, or operator conduct. Ensure that customer service standards are met, and passengers have a safe, comfortable, and reliable experience.
  7. Incident and Accident Response: Manage and supervise response to accidents, mechanical failures, or safety concerns on the streetcar routes. Ensure proper documentation and communication to management and other relevant authorities.
  8. Performance Evaluation: Regularly assess the performance of streetcar operators, providing feedback, coaching, and corrective action if necessary. Complete performance evaluations and recommend promotions or disciplinary actions when needed.
  9. Route Planning Support: Collaborate with transit planners to optimize route schedules and service delivery, ensuring that all areas are covered and service disruptions are minimized.
  10. Reporting and Documentation: Maintain records of daily operations, incidents, accidents, operator performance, and service disruptions. Prepare reports for management and participate in meetings to discuss operational issues and improvements.
  11. Ensure Compliance: Ensure that all streetcar operations comply with local transportation regulations, safety standards, and company policies. Implement and monitor adherence to operational guidelines.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Standing/Walking: Ability to stand, walk, and inspect streetcar operations or assist operators for extended periods of time during supervisory duties.
  2. Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with operators, dispatchers, passengers, and management via radio, phone, or in person.
  3. Vision and Hearing: Adequate vision and hearing to monitor streetcar operations, respond to radio communication, and ensure a safe work environment.
  4. Lifting: Ability to lift items up to 25 pounds, such as paperwork, safety equipment, or other necessary materials for the role.
  5. Physical Endurance: Ability to remain alert during long shifts, including in various weather conditions, while managing multiple tasks and responding to incidents.

Additional Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (some college or post-secondary education is preferred).
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in streetcar operations or public transit, including experience as a streetcar operator.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of local traffic laws, streetcar operational procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
