Job Description

Title: Exadata Support Engineer
Location: Whippany, NJ  

Responsibilities

  1. Front-to-back support of Exadata platform being built for OneRisk application within RFT Market Risk space. Platform will use brand-new X10M database machines. Support responsibilities include:
  • Unix OS management, including patches, upgrades, Cyber vulnerabilities remediation, OS backups, system performance tuning, other activities to ensure compliance with Bank’s standards.
  • Oracle DB management (same scope as above).
  • Migration of the existing OneRisk databases being hosted on 19c RACs to Exadata (expected to be done throughout 2024).
  • Incident & Change Management across environments of all grades, including Production.
  • Proactive system monitoring and preventive / corrective actions when necessary daily health checks.
  • Maintenance of dedicated monitoring infrastructure (Oracle OEM / ASR).
  • Provisioning of new databases /environments.
  • Capacity Management & Forecasting.
  • Database backups.
  • Refresh of Non-Production databases.
  • Ownership of physical hardware problems (e.g. motherboard / disks failures), and coordination with vendor & datacentre engineers on their resolution.
  • Management of vendor Service Requests.
  • Other Engineering / DevOps / Project Work, e.g. optimization of database code delivery (CI/CD).

2. Serving as a backup Support Engineer during India hours for Exadata platform operating in the Finance space – a mix of X5s (being phased out) and X9s.

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

You will need to be able to:

  • Work with global and multi-disciplinary delivery teams.
  • Clearly articulate messages to a variety of audiences, establishing and maintaining good relationships with colleagues at all levels.
  • Efficiently handle individual workload.
  • Communicate problems, Understand needs/challenges and issues to stakeholders to avoid last minute surprises and provide satisfactory solution to issues surrounding creation and implementation of technology solutions along with discussing via various communication channels and ensuring client expectations of operational performance and efficiency are met within the Bank.

Required Skills

  • Hands on technical experience with various Unix server platforms, first of all RHEL, Oracle, Oracle DBS supporting their DBMS, i.e. OEM, ASR, etc. Linux, system administration skills, and Infrastructure elements (cabling, network, load balancing, middleware / messaging).
  • Good experience supporting Exadata platform for large clients, including in Production.
  • Exposure to DevOps, both from the cultural/processes angle, as well as tooling involved, specifically in the areas of CI/CD (JIRA, Git/Bitbucket, TeamCity/Jenkins, deployment solutions), Infrastructure-as-a-Code (Chef, or alternatives), monitor tools (ELK, Grafana, InfluxDB, Prometheus).
  • Strong automation skills (Bash, Python, etc.).

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong muti-tasking and ability to work, prioritize activities, based on constantly evolving external requirements and deliver results from the numerous parties.
  • Several years of experience with Application layer (as opposed to purely Infrastructure work) and delivering service to the users. Background in Application Support and Service Reliability Engineering will be good to have.
  • Experience with performance tuning of the large Oracle databases.
