About the role

JOB PURPOSE

The Production Leader must lead, develop and motivate a team of production workers to achieve results and project deadlines while continually improving individual skills and enhancing teamwork. The Production Leader must ensure that quality products are produced efficiently at the lowest cost & in the correct quantities while meeting or exceeding key indicators & customer expectations. Responsibilities include coordination and control of manufacturing processes, including decisions involving cost, lead time, productivity & utilization of personnel.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create & promote a safe, healthy & environmentally friendly atmosphere while holding all employees accountable to Sandvik policies & practices.
  • Responsible for directing & assigning activities related to the flow of material, utilization of employees & productivity levels for production teams in line with company financial & budgetary objectives.
  • Effectively communicate production status to all levels of management and key stakeholders.
  • Facilitate the communication of pertinent information with other teams, departments, functional areas, & other key stakeholders to encourage open communication.
  • Take ownership & drive the daily production activities in all aspects.
  • Develop self-directed teams within the workforce that empowers each individual & encourages them to learn new skills creating a flexible workforce.
  • Hire & provide training for employees & manage personnel issues relating to attendance, vacation scheduling & disciplinary action.
  • Coach & mentor operators on best practices for process improvements.
  • Responsible for improving production processes, procedures & efficient utilization of personnel & equipment.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining the Sandvik Way culture, promoting continuous improvement and a high degree of focus on quality.
  • Responsible for operating production machinery as needed to fill gaps and ensure continuity of workflow.  
  • Partner with other corporate locations, department leaders/managers & employees to build and follow strategic plans for the overall organization.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Strong, versatile machining background and proven, proactive problem-solving ability.
  • Must be able to leverage strong leadership, communication & presentation skills to effectively collaborate with management & employees.
  • Must be able to read, write & speak English & possess good communication skills.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft products.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years of on-site production and operations experience with Sandvik.
  • Prior leadership experience required.

EDUCATION

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Associate Degree or Diploma from a Technical College or Trade School preferred.
