Public Works Transportation is looking for a Maintenance Worker II in Street Operations.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Experience in street maintenance operations and asphalt work.

  • Experience in pouring and finishing concrete preferred.

  • Ability to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks.

  • Working knowledge of street maintenance related equipment.

  • Ability to work as a member of a service-oriented team.

  • Ability to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks

  • Ability to work emergency and on-call shifts.

Essential Functions

Example of Duties:
1. Operate a variety of equipment and perform other duties relating to the construction, repair and maintenance of City streets.
2. Perform skilled operation of heavy duty equipment and vehicles.
3. Patch potholes, maintain shoulders, locate utilities, repair and replace sidewalks, remove or prune trees which are dangerous to traffic or pedestrians.
4. Build and repair storm drainage systems, install and repair storm water lines, catch basins, ditches, culverts, maintenance holes, and rip-raping.
5. Perform winter snow and ice removal.
6. Install street signs and markings, and installing/repairing guard rails, curbing and sidewalks.
7. Punctual, regular and reliable attendance is essential for successful job performance.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

1. Knowledge of the operating characteristics of assigned vehicles and equipment, such as dump trucks, forklifts, crane & boom, backhoes, loaders, graders, flushers, and slope mowers.
2. Knowledge of proper trenching procedures.
3. Ability to follow effective safety practices and procedures.
4. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers.
5. Ability to work as a member of a self-directed work team.
6. Ability to lift heavy objects and sustain physical activity for long periods of time.
7. Ability to establish effective traffic controls around work sites.
8. Ability to work from written instructions and technical drawings.
9. Ability to read maps and learn city street layout.
10. Ability to select the proper tools for the most efficient completion of the assigned task.
11. Ability to use common sense and apply safe work habits when working in dangerous areas or with power equipment.
12. Ability to respond to questions and complaints from the public with tact and courtesy.


Experience/Education:

1. One year experience in performing street maintenance and/or closely related construction work required.


Special Requirements:
1. Must possess a Valid Washington State Driver's license.
2. Must possess a Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement by the end of the 6 month probationary period.
3. Once obtained, a current valid CDL is an ongoing requirement as a condition of employment for this position.

$65,579.49 - $79,725.15
