The Job/What You’ll Do:;

The Director of Advanced Planning plays a critical role within AssetMark’s Wealth Solutions group. You will influence the strategic direction, development, and delivery of comprehensive financial planning and estate strategies for high-net-worth (HNW)  & ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) clients and advisors across the organization. In this highly visible position, you will partner cross-functionally to shape and evolve AssetMark’s planning capabilities, provide thought leadership in complex estate and business succession planning, and ensure an exceptional advisor and client experience. 

This is a full-time position in our Charlotte, NC office with a hybrid work schedule.

 

Responsibilities:

  •  Strategic Leadership: Continuously evolve the firm’s advanced planning vision, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and market trends
  • Complex Case Oversight: Serve as the senior escalation point for the most challenging HNW/UHNW cases, delivering strategic insight and tailored solutions
  • Team Development & Oversight: Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of senior financial planners, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and professional growth
  • Innovation & Solution Design: Identify, evaluate, and implement new planning and estate solutions to expand and enhance the AssetMark platform
  • Thought Leadership: Represent AssetMark as a subject matter expert, delivering high-impact presentations and engaging with advisory boards, strategic partners, and industry forums
  • Cross-Functional Influence: Partner with Product, Sales, and Marketing to embed advanced planning strategies into the firm’s value proposition for advisors and clients
  • Operational Excellence: Establish transparent, scalable, and repeatable processes that drive efficiency, consistency, and measurable impact in planning and delivery
  • Technology & Tools Advancement: Champion the adoption and optimization of industry-leading planning tools (e.g., eMoney, Holistiplan, SS Analyzer) to improve advisor effectiveness and client engagement
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Lead the collection, analysis, and application of planning-related data to inform strategic decisions and identify gro wth opportunities

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with financial planning tools (e.g., eMoney, MoneyGuidePro, Holistiplan) and CRM platforms such as Salesforce
  • Exceptional executive communication skills, with experience influencing senior leadership, advisory councils, and client decision-makers
  • Strong business acumen and ability to navigate ambiguity, balance competing priorities, and influence without authority
  • Proven expertise in estate planning, tax strategy, and business transitions

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and advanced degree (e.g., JD, MST, MBA) required
  •  Active CFP® and Business Exit certifications required
  • 10+ years of financial planning experience, including complex HNW/UHNW client engagements and cross-functional strategic projects 

 

Compensation: The Base Salary range for this position is between $160,000-$190,000.

 

This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location. This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits.
