  • Support the Sarasota County Fuel Tank Compliance Program as well as other environmental programs in the future.
  • Schedule and conduct petroleum storage tank inspections for state compliance, analyze records, input data into the State system, and advise on non-compliance issues.
  • Interact with various Sarasota County departments (Risk, Public Utilities, Public Works, etc.), governmental agencies, and internal staff to resolve violations, and pollution concerns through education, cooperation, and compliance.
  • Investigate concerns and reports of conditions, spills, and clean-up efforts of Sarasota County Fuel tank sites.
  • Conduct field investigations to document site conditions, potential violations, and associated data analysis to determine compliance with standards.
  • Prepare reports on investigative findings.
  • Perform data input and management of large data sets. 
  • Act as compliance official working with State DEP officials and internal staff to assure tanks meet performance and safety requirements.
  • Maintain all required certifications and FDEP required inspection data.
  • Maintain various field equipment to ensure they are calibrated correctly and in good working condition.
  • Work with contracted vendors to ensure repairs are completed promptly.
  • Manage data in State and County systems.
  • Conduct spill response training, and ensure all required activities are properly permitted and in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for the team and provide knowledge in areas of tank services.
  • Assist in the development of plans and tasks to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in the biological or physical sciences, environmental engineering, or related field AND two (2) years of professional experience.
  • -OR- Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in the biological or physical sciences, environmental engineering, or related field AND one year of professional experience.
  • -OR- Progressively responsible professional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college degree.
  • A valid Florida Driver's License at the date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • OSHA Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure courses or Environmental Compliance Certificates.
  • Understanding of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to multiple environmental programs.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening:  This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.  An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five (5) years.

CJIS Clearance: The successful candidate will be subject to an extensive background check(s) as a part of the hiring process. 

About Everything Else

Starting Pay Range: $53,456.00 - $56,000.00 , based upon experience.
