Columbus School for Girls (CSG) is an independent day school in Columbus, Ohio, founded in 1898, serving diverse students in grades preschool through grade 12. Columbus School for Girls seeks to hire an Assistant Director of Communications & Public Relations who will partner with the Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications to execute communications projects that align with the School’s strategic Marketing and Communications plans and enhance the School’s brand through email marketing, scriptwriting, and text-based content. This role will also be responsible for developing and implementing strategic public relations plans to enhance the school's image, promote its programs, and engage with key stakeholders. In addition, this role will be CSG’s editor-in-chief of our school magazine, Forte et Gratum, overseeing its layout, production, and the recruitment of contributing writers, columnists, and photographers. Major Functions and Responsibilities:
- Manage CSG's internal all-school communications, including all school and division newsletters, the school website, crisis communications, and content for all written materials published by the School.
- Serve as editor-in-chief of Forte et Gratum, CSG’s biannual magazine, taking responsibility for coordinating the publication from planning stages to delivery.
- Develop and promote compelling and dynamic news stories via internal content systems and press releases that help reach key stakeholder audiences, engage various audiences, and communicate the School’s values, programs, events, and other forms of communications when necessary.
- Create and curate scripts for the Head of School and other senior leadership, as well as coordinate all scriptwriting for videography and other advertising needs.
- Partner with the Assistant Director of Marketing in creating content and materials that promote the School’s goals in enrollment and fundraising.
- Cultivate relationships with local and regional media outlets, prepare and distribute press releases, coordinate media coverage, and respond to media inquiries in a timely manner.
- Assist the Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications with the development of department goals and strategic plans to meet those goals.
- Assist the Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications in managing our PR and Communications 3rd party vendors.
- Measure and analyze the results of communications strategies and plans to inform future decisions and determine return on investment.
- Required attendance at events and meetings during and/or outside of business hours as needed and as requested by the Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications.
- Other duties as deemed necessary to support Marketing and Communications functions throughout CSG.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, English, or in a directly related field; Masters degree preferred
- One-three years of experience working in a marketing and communications environment is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
- A strong working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) and Google Suite.
- Experience developing media relations strategies, developing relationships with local media, and seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast, and online media using a data-driven approach.
- Prior experience in a school environment and graphic design is strongly preferred; experience with photography and videography is preferred.
