POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Aquatics and Youth Development, the Associate Director of Aquatics and Youth Development will support the YMCA through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Assists with developing, organizing, and overseeing Aquatics programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists in overseeing the Aquatics Department. This includes (but is not limited to) scheduling and supervising lifeguards and swim instructors, ensuring shift coverage is secured and documented, verifying employees are properly dressed (bathing suit, lifeguard shirt and whistle) and on deck ready to work on time, and checking lifeguard staff have proper equipment at all times and in good working order (i.e. rescue tube, fanny pack with mask, gloves and whistle).
- Assists Director of Aquatics and Youth Development in recruiting, hiring and training lifeguards and swim instructors for both locations.
- Oversees YMCA Tiger Sharks swim team
- Assists the maintenance department by checking that daily pool maintenance and cleaning responsibilities are accomplished and accurately recorded as directed. Able to communicate with maintenance promptly if any maintenance issues arise.
- Supervise swim instructors to ensure classes begin and end on time, attendance is recorded, skills are assessed, and level slips/progress reports are distributed.
- Works with the Director of Aquatics and Youth Development to ensure profitable class enrollment and class sizes and may include responsibilities such as adding, merging or removing classes from our swim lesson schedule with approval. Manage program registration to ensure all participants on a waiting list receive reasonable accommodations.
- Assists in YMCA fundraising efforts and special events.
- All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent
- Two to three years of related experience is preferred
- Proven work history in aquatics supervision and leadership roles
- Current YMCA Lifeguard or American Red Cross Lifeguard (including CPR/AED)
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor preferred or willing to obtain.
- Excellent judgment and decision-making skills
- Must be able to work throughout the duration of the summer camp program
