Herman-Scheer is a brand consultancy that creates brands, products, and experiences for businesses that keep people healthy. We focus on a range of sectors, including disruptive healthcare, wellness technology, healthy food and beverages, fitness and recreation, and personal care. We have a 15 person team that is primarily remote with an office space in Venice for occasional in person meetings and working sessions.
The Design Director at Herman-Scheer is responsible for leading the creative vision, direction, design and strategy of projects. This leadership role requires overseeing multiple teams, managing high-level client relationships, and ensuring that all creative output aligns with both the brand’s vision and business objectives.
- Visual Design: Lead visual design for projects ranging from branding, web, campaign, social, packaging, print and beyond while keeping strategy and business goals top of mind.
- Branding: Create compelling visual identity systems including logo, color palette, typography, art direction, iconography, illustrations, etc. Show how the identity manifests in a variety of brand and marketing touchpoints. Develop brand guidelines outlining rules and rationale.
- Conceptual Development: Create strong conceptual foundations for design direction and decisions via mood boards and written rationale.
- Creative Leadership: Develop and articulate the creative strategy and vision for campaigns across multiple platforms, ensuring alignment with client goals and brand guidelines.
- Team Management: Lead and mentor creative teams, including designers, copywriters, and other creatives, to produce innovative work that meets or exceeds client expectations.
- Client Collaboration: Work closely with clients to understand their needs, present creative concepts, and guide them through the decision-making process.
- Project Oversight: Ensure that all creative work is on brand, high quality, and delivered on time and within budget.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with other department heads (Brand, Content, etc.) to ensure cohesive planning and execution across departments.
- Innovation & Trends: Stay updated on the latest industry trends, technologies, and creative tools to push the boundaries of what the team can achieve.
- Problem-Solving: Address challenges during the creative process and develop solutions to keep projects on track.
Requirements
- Experience: 8-12+ years of creative leadership experience, preferably in a creative agency or in-house creative team.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, manage, and inspire large teams and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Creative Vision: A strong portfolio showcasing creative campaigns and the ability to take concepts from ideation to execution across digital & print.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present creative ideas clearly and persuasively to both clients and internal teams.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with design tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Figma etc.) and a solid understanding of digital platforms, UX/UI design, and multimedia formats.
- Problem-Solving: Strong decision-making skills and the ability to think on your feet.
- Client Management: Experience handling high-profile clients, balancing their needs with the creative vision, and providing exceptional client service.
- Innovation: A passion for pushing creative boundaries and fostering an environment of continuous innovation.
Preferred Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in graphic design, marketing, communications, or a related field.
- Experience working with global brands or managing large-scale creative projects.
