About the role

Why we need you

Springboard Collaborative invites experienced, high-achieving, and passionate candidates to apply for the position of Chief Product Officer (CPO). The CPO is responsible for optimizing the value we deliver to our students, families, and partners by owning the overall design and effectiveness of Springboard products. A successful candidate will have experience in managing large (20+) teams, developing and driving product/service roadmaps, and owning customer-facing technology.

The CPO will report to the President and is a member of the Springboard Leadership Team. The position will lead the following teams:

  • Academic Research & Design (develop & maintain curriculum & supporting resources)
  • Data & Evaluation (analyze & report on org-wide & partner-level impact)
  • Innovation & Improvement (research, prioritize, and manage product improvements)
  • Product & Engineering (own our customer-facing “Connect” tech platform)

This is a great opportunity for an experienced leader to own the optimization of an already successful, scalable educational product and service. The CPO will work closely with the Partnership Success Team, who is responsible for delivering services to our partner schools.

Springboard is unique in that we are a stable and well-established organization, but still highly entrepreneurial and rapidly growing. You can read more about the responsibilities, goals, competencies, and experience requirements below. We'd love to have you join us!

What we do

Springboard Collaborative closes the literacy gap by closing the gap between home and school. We coach educators and family members to help kids learn to read by 4th grade. Springboard envisions a world in which all children have the requisite literacy skills to access life opportunities. See the resources linked at the end of this document for more information.

This is important

We are an equal opportunity employer. Diversity is more than a commitment at Springboard Collaborative—it’s at the core of what we do and how we do it. No one can solve a problem better than those who experience it firsthand. That’s why Springboard aspires to hire a diverse team that is representative of the marginalized communities we serve.

We also know that having a diverse workforce makes for a better workplace. Springboard’s hiring process seeks individuals who value diversity of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, national origin, etc.

Finally, if you’re passionate about an open role, we encourage you to apply— even if you don’t meet 100% of the qualifications listed in the job description!

Here are your goals in the first year:

  • Achieve best-in-class reading growth - Ensure Springboard’s products enable school partners to meet 80% of individual students’ learning goals.
  • Establish a multi-year product roadmap to optimize impact - Identify primary drivers of impact within SBC control. Develop a multi-year roadmap clearly defining program elements to invest in, alter, and phase out. Establish quantitative targets to measure improvement.
  • Improve customer experience - Research and define customer (student, family, teacher, seasonal staff) experience. Design survey-based data collection methodology, demonstrate sufficiently high response rates, and set a measurable baseline for FY23 and FY24 comparison. Prioritize and act on preliminary teacher and seasonal staff customer experience (CX) insights to implement program improvements.
  • Drive program simplification - Define the key elements of scale-inhibiting program complexity, conduct research to quantify it, and establish a baseline for FY23 and FY24 improvement. Define the elements of program fidelity, informed by evolving views of the drivers of impact. Evaluate the elements of program fidelity for “simplicity” or “operationalization” as a baseline for FY23 and FY24 improvement.
  • Fulfill Connect technology roadmap - Execute established Connect roadmap on time and within budget. Improve technology-related CX re-align technology roadmap with emerging priorities as needed.

Here are your responsibilities within and beyond the first year:

  • Develop and drive product and service strategy - Lead the teams that research, design, build, and maintain the products and services we deliver, along with their supporting tools and enablers. Communicate the strategy internally to ensure that team members can see their role in that strategy.
  • Produce curriculum and program resources - Incorporate proven research into Springboard’s educational offerings and ensure high-quality and user-frie
