About the role

Overview

The Council on Foreign Relations is creating innovative educational resources, which seek to equip students and the interested public with the skills, knowledge, and perspective—the global literacy—required to understand the forces, ideas, and institutions that shape our world. These resources include World101, a growing library of multimedia primers explaining the fundamentals of international relations and U.S. foreign policy; Model Diplomacy, a multimedia simulation program that invites participants to role-play in the context of National Security Council and UN Security Council meetings; and Convene the Council, an educational video game developed in collaboration with iCivics for ages 12 and up. These products come with an array of teaching resources and activities aimed at high school and college instructors and their students.

 

The Director, Education Marketing will support the Vice President, Education to develop and execute the marketing strategy for CFR Education. This position is based in the New York office on a hybrid basis. CFR currently defines hybrid as working at least three days a week onsite, with Tuesdays and Thursdays considered institutional anchor days where all staff are required to be onsite.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Develop an annual marketing strategy, timeline, and budget under the direction of the Vice President, Education.
  • Monitor the marketing budget and adjust when needed.
  • Supervise and collaborate with the marketing team to promote the CFR Education brand, World101, Model Diplomacy, and any new content produced by CFR Education.
  • Manage the day-to-day workflow, prioritization, responsibilities, and professional growth of the marketing team.
  • Strategize, edit, and provide feedback on email campaigns, SEO, conferences, social media, marketing brochures, advertising, and overall communications.
  • Supervise the creation of a monthly analytics report and leverage findings to make strategic adjustments to marketing strategy and tactics.
  • Work with Education’s Director, Content and Director, Teaching & Learning to coordinate department priorities, including for newsletters, social media, and teaching resources related to CFR content and products.
  • Work with CFR Digital Services and Communications to ensure CFR Education’s marketing programs adhere to CFR standards and fit into CFR.org’s portfolio.
  • Work with the Vice President, Education, CFR Digital Services, Education’s Senior Product Manager, and an outside firm to help redesign CFR Education web properties to ensure they meet market needs and expectations.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of relevant marketing experience.
  • Experience marketing to K-12 and higher education instructors essential.
  • Degree in a related field with high academic achievement.
  • Superb writing and editing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong management skills and prior experience managing in a fast-paced environment.
  • Public speaking experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to work in a deadline-driven, collaborative environment.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills and high attention to detail.

Pay Range

$100,000 to $140,000 per year

Pay commensurate with experience and education
