Senior Data Engineer

Are you ready to take on meaningful data engineering challenges and contribute to one of Finland’s largest and most advanced data platforms?

Veikkaus is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our team working with a modern platform that combines gaming event data, customer information from one of Finland’s largest customer bases, and online store activity. The position is permanent and full-time. What sets this role apart is the opportunity to work with one of the most extensive and diverse data sets in the country—a rare chance in the Finnish market. 

But that’s not all. In this role, you’ll also help build a completely new data platform to support Veikkaus’ international expansion. It’s a unique opportunity to shape something from the ground up and make a lasting impact.

At Veikkaus, Data as a Service team is responsible for the centralized collection, processing, and distribution of business data, along with the technical solutions that support them. You’ll join a focused platform team of four experts, responsible for developing and maintaining the technologies and tools behind our data infrastructure. Key components include data reception interfaces, stream and batch processing systems, data warehouses, and tools that support the daily work of data engineers.

The role includes both operational responsibilities and continuous platform development, as well as supporting other development projects across the company.

Our current tech stack includes GCP native services (BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions), Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Apache Kafka, Apache NiFi, and Pentaho. We value experience with real-time data processing and cloud environments, but we don’t expect you to know everything—we believe a solid technical foundation and a curious mindset go a long way. Experience with DevOps is also beneficial, as we’ve recently transitioned to a cloud-based operating model.

This position is for you if these are the areas of your expertise or interest
 

• Strong Apache NIFI and Kafka knowledge
• Cloud & Kubernetes Management: Docker and Kubernetes, Kubernetes operators, Helm charts, and service meshes
• GCP platform knowledge: compute engine, cloud functions, pub/sub, cloud tasks
• Infrastructure Management & Automation Infrastructure as Code (IaC): terraform and terragrunt
• Knowledge of VPCs, API Gateways, Load Balancers
• CI/CD Pipeline Development: Gitlab
• Python and bash scripting and ability to do some development for automation
• Monitoring & Logging: Prometheus, Grafana
