Position Summary...
The Senior Director of Emerging Payments / Electronic Payment Acceptance will lead and provide strategic vision, development, and execution of innovative payment initiatives across various payment acceptance programs, products and services such as Directed Spend, Gift Cards, Associate PayCard, FSA/HSA, Fleet Cards, and omni-channel payment solutions. This individual will oversee an internal team, internal and external partnerships, manage high-level supplier relationships, and shape the future of payment acceptance and processing through cutting-edge solutions and compliance-focused innovation.What you'll do...
Strategic Leadership & Program Execution
- Develop and execute enterprise-wide payment strategies across corporate, and consumer programs.
- Shape and influence enhancements in restricted spend and emerging payments industries.
- Lead strategic planning and tactical execution of Walmart’s Directed Spend and Gift Card initiatives across markets and formats to reach aggressive targets.
- Drive cross-functional alignment with business stakeholders to deliver seamless payment experiences.
Partnerships & Supplier Management
- Build and manage relationships with key suppliers, vendors, and strategic partners.
- Monitor supplier performance against KPIs and SLAs; initiate corrective actions where needed.
- Oversee team that serves as the primary point of escalation for supplier service issues.
- Lead negotiations for complex contracts and agreements to ensure long-term mutual value.
Innovation & Product Development
- Direct the discovery and development of new payment solutions that enhance omni-channel capabilities.
- Lead operational improvements and reporting for digital, in-store, and online gift card activations.
- Champion product vision and advocate emerging payment strategies to internal and external stakeholders.
Regulatory, Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations governing payment, paycard and restricted spend programs.
- Address key regulatory and policy issues through internal counsel and industry collaboration.
- Oversee governance submissions and maintain all records for audit and compliance review.
Operational Excellence
- Lead risk assessment and mitigation efforts across emerging payment programs.
- Create and manage policies, procedures, and performance improvement strategies.
- Oversee program financials, data analysis, and reporting for optimal decision-making.
- Lead project management methodologies, ensuring on-time delivery and stakeholder communication.
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in payments, financial services, or fintech industries.
- 5+ years of leadership in managing large-scale, enterprise-level payment initiatives.
- Proven experience negotiating high-value, complex contracts and managing partner relationships.
- Strong knowledge of compliance, regulatory environments, and risk frameworks within the payments sector.
- Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
- Experience with digital tender, gift card programs, and restricted spend platforms is highly desirable.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field (MBA preferred).
