Job Description Qualifications:

Boeing Research & Technology is looking for a Network Technology Research Engineer (Mid-Level, Experienced, or Senior) based out of Arlington, VA; Hazelwood, MO; or Huntington Beach, CA.

This position is for a Networking and Distributed systems researcher who will join Product Security Engineering within Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) to conduct Networking research. This position will focus on the development of new technologies to support mobile ad hoc directional networking, both on board wireless and off board SATCOM networking environments. This position will involve leading and supporting research projects to develop new concepts in tactical mobile ad-hoc network protocols, sensor protocols, airborne network overlays, or network management technologies, along with work to prove the feasibility of new network technologies, building of prototypes to demonstrate the feasibility of the technologies, and the test and evaluation of prototypes in relevant environments. This position will be focused on achieving successful technology transitions from the research environment to Boeing programs as well as to external customers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and sustains product security and resiliency throughout the requirements, design, build, test, production, operations, and support lifecycle.

  • Develops and enhances system requirements and architectures for product security to meet all applicable certification and customer requirements.

  • Ensures security of facilities, equipment, tools, data, networks, and resources used for product: design, development, build, test, storage, delivery, operations, and support.

  • Defines and identifies product security requirements for suppliers of components and subsystems for integration into Boeing products and services.

  • Coordinates with governments, customers, suppliers, and industry to identify risks and improve industry and regulatory security standards and requirements for programs and interfacing systems.

  • Conducts research and development activities resulting in innovative solutions.

  • Advises customers on maintaining product security and certification, including security consequences of modifying products and services.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.Ā  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 1+ years of experience with research and development in Network Systems programming

  • Experience with Linux Kernel architecture and key areas of implementation

  • Experience programming with C, C++, Python and/or shell scripts

  • Experience architecting, designing, configuring, implementing, testing and certifying network devices

  • Experience utilizing TCP/IP network protocols

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with system hardware, including hardware systems; radio frequency communications; and ASIC, board, and module design processes and capabilities

  • Experience with developing hardware abstraction layer designs and firmware

  • Real-time target environments, including processor and network architectures, communication protocols, simulation frameworks and electrical interfaces

  • Ability to build, integrate and troubleshoot software components

  • Real-time software domain knowledge, including domains, characteristics, constraints and products that require real-time software and influence the architecture, requirements, interfaces, designs, and integrati
