POSITION SUMMARY:
This position reports to a Law Enforcement Captain. This is a full-time position that helps oversee the patrol function of Capitol Police.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties include:
- Leading, planning, organizing, and supervising members of the Capitol Police Division;
- Maintaining protection of the Capitol Complex;
- Identifying high liability/high hazard training needs and assisting in the development of training programs to address those needs;
- Complying with and maintaining knowledge of all Departmental Policies and Division Standard Operation Procedures;
- Enforcing Florida Statutes, rules of the Department of Management Services governing the regulation of traffic and parking within the Capitol Complex and responding to complaints relating to criminal activity or security threats within the Capitol Complex and within the responsibility of the agency pursuant to Chapter 943, Florida Statutes;
- Projecting a professional demeanor while performing assigned duties; and
- Attending in-service and specialized training, in accordance with Florida Statutes and agency needs to maintain certification and proficiency in areas related to the job.
To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Four years of sworn law enforcement or sworn investigative experience and at least two years in a law enforcement supervisory position (minimum of six years of law enforcement experience).
- College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours per year for a maximum of one year of the required sworn law enforcement experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to work without close supervision and to make independent decisions;
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions;
- Ability to recognize dangerous or potentially dangerous situations;
