About the role

The Red Hat OpenStack Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer to join our team in Raleigh, North Carolina. In this role, you will be a key contributor within the operations pillar of OSP engineering, specifically within the High Availability and Shared Services team, with a strong emphasis on ensuring the quality and reliability of our systems. You will involve yourself with upstream community projects, and collaborate internally with other RHOSP engineering teams to help guide new features, use cases, and integrations. From our office in Raleigh, North Carolina, you will participate as a member of a geographically distributed team, using multiple communication tools for close collaboration.

Prior experience contributing to OpenStack projects is preferred. Knowledge of OpenStack or OpenShift and prior DevOps contributions in this domain is a plus.

What you will do:

  • Participate in a team of developer and quality engineers to build the next generation of shared services in a Red Hat OpenStack on OpenShift (RHOSO) deployment.

  • Write automation scripts using Python, Ansible, and other languages to streamline deployments and configurations, ensuring robust testing throughout the process.

  • Develop and implement automatic test scenarios alongside the open-source community, with a focus on comprehensive test coverage, including corner cases and breaking points.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement solutions that meet customer requirements.

  • Debug and resolve complex issues related to databases, messaging brokers, and cloud infrastructure, with an emphasis on performance, reliability, and root cause analysis.

  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in cloud technologies to continuously improve and innovate our solutions.

  • Contribute to open-source projects, particularly within the OpenStack ecosystem.

  • Participate in Agile processes, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives, taking accountability for code quality up to the point of handover.

  • Leverage AI as an accelerator to bring solutions to market faster and more effectively.

  • Troubleshoot and debug OpenStack infrastructure configuration & orchestration.

  • Working across functional teams to utilize a broad skill set to resolve RHOSP dependency and layered product integration issues.

  • Develop test automation to deliver new features and improve RHOSO reliability and UX, using Ansible playbooks/roles/plugins, Python, and GO, accelerating our automated testing efforts and taking ownership of building necessary testing environments.

  • Participate in the continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) quality assurance process, actively working to update jobs and improve automation.

  • Provide excellent customer service for issues escalated into engineering, investigating and resolving problems thoroughly.
     

What you will bring:

  • Strong experience in software development, test automation, and quality engineering, ensuring the delivery of reliable and maintainable solutions.

  • A growth mindset, with an ability to mentor and develop those around you.

  • Experience developing in Python and GO.

  • Experience with one or more of the following: Ansible, OpenStack Platform, Kubernetes, Podman, and other container tools.

  • Experience of working in a sprint-based, agile environment.

  • Open source software development experience is a plus.

  • Knowledge of cloud computing, configuration management, and orchestration.

  • Ability to work on a distributed team and contribute to an inclusive, open, and collaborative workplace.

  • Good English communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • A self-driven and motivated approach, a strong sense of ownership, and the ability to follow up on issues when they arise.

The salary range for this position is $148,540.00 - $245,050.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.
