JOB SUMMARY

The Pharmacy Intern is responsible for performing functions like prepackaging medications and preparing I.V. admixtures. This position is also responsible for processing orders, preparing labels and maintaining various records, as well as filling outpatient prescriptions.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

 

*Compounds bulk items and extemporaneous prescriptions and orders under the supervision of a pharmacist.

 

*Enters patient medication orders into the pharmacy computer system, operates automated compounding and dispensing machines for preparation and storage of medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.


*Fills outpatient prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist.

*Interprets the data relative to age and to provides care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures

*Maintains medication inventory, places and receives stock replacement orders.

*Prepares, compounds and labels intravenous admixtures, cancer chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition patient specific doses using strict aseptic technique.

*Prepares, packages, compounds and labels non-sterile drug products for specific patients with appropriate final pharmacist checks.

*Takes verbal prescription orders and answers drug information questions with supervision of a pharmacist.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Current enrollment in a school of pharmacy recognized by the California Board of Pharmacy

– OR –

Graduate from a school of pharmacy recognized by the California Board of Pharmacy.

Experience: None required.
