Job Description:

History Nebraska is seeking an organized self-starter to undertake the responsibility of preserving the good condition and functionality of multiple buildings. The maintenance specialist will perform a wide variety of maintenance tasks including light electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general building maintenance . The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and responsibly while observing all health and safety guidelines. Job Duties

• Surveys buildings and repairs mechanical systems to ensure they are in good standing and good repair and functioning properly.
• Performs maintenance of electrical systems (eg. replace light bulbs and ballasts, etc.).
• Monitors and maintains HVAC and other systems and conducts repairs as necessary.
• Performs manual repairs when necessary (eg. fix locks and doors, etc.).
• Undertakes activities of pest control such as spraying insecticide.
• Conducts general upkeep procedures (eg. building exterior and landscaping) and other tasks as assigned {eg. painting, carpentry, etc.).
• Supervises internal and external custodial team, including directing, assigning, and monitoring work.\
• Collaborates with various History Nebraska teams to ensure buildings are visitor friendly.
• Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to: helping other departments, participating in interdepartmental committees and working groups; participating in community outreach events.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or other building trade. Experience in building maintenance, a mechanical trade, or performing safety inspections, investigations or training may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis as determined appropriate by the agency. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in HVAC, Electrical, Carpentry, Customer service

 

Other: This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver’s license or another form of reliable transportation. Regular and reliable attendance is required.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Basic knowledge of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, safety practices, and general maintenance processes and methods. Working knowledge of hand tools, and metering devices Ability to interact personably with internal and external customers, including but not limited to staff, visitors, and venders Problem solving ability - Abiliity to research, analize, troubleshoot problems Adaptability - Ability to adapt to changing priorities, equipment, and technology Time Management Skills - Ability to plan and prioritize projects and complete projects in a timely manner Teamwork - Ability to recognize strengths in self and others and use them to achieve work goals Ability to cope with stress - Must be able to work well under pressure in emergency situations
