Job Summary/Description:

WDBJ, the dominant station in the Roanoke/Lynchburg market, is looking for a dynamic individual to be our next Director of Sales. We're looking for a mindful, strategic individual who leads by example and is a passionate seller who is as dedicated to coaching and motivating others as much as closing deals.

 Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

• Supervise local, digital, national sales, and traffic departments
• Effectively coach and motivate the sales team
• Build and maintain client relationships
• Apply creative management and marketing techniques to generate new revenue opportunities
• Accurately prepare departmental budgets and forecast revenue goals
• Maintain current knowledge of competitive pricing trends and products as they pertain to the market
• Responsible for attaining revenue goals on all media platforms
• Develop and/or implement sales projects
• Train the sales management team on optimizing revenue potential on all platforms
• Analyze research to set commercial advertising rates and manage inventory to maximize revenue
• Conduct weekly performance reviews for the sales team
• Cultivate positive and productive relationships with all station departments
• Monitor competition to ensure the best possible sales position of the station
• Maintain accurate records on all income areas
• Conduct weekly meetings to help grow business in sales, digital, and contests
• Assist General Manager as needed
• Perform other job-related duties as requested

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Strong understanding of digital and broadcast
• Able to implement and manage strategic initiatives to meet goals
• Knowledge and experience with Wide Orbit, Wide Orbit Media Sales, and Matrix.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented
• Excellent time management skills
• Must possess strong, creative business and leadership skills.
• Must have a keen ability to negotiate with clients
• Advanced-level knowledge of inventory management and marketing research
• Ability to remain current with market conditions and competition
• Ability to form and build trust with clients
• Ability to coach and train the sales team, lead by example
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Must be able to give public presentations
• Must be able to accurately prepare budgets and forecast revenue
• Ability to meet multiple tight deadlines and work well under pressure
• Advanced knowledge of the current station programming schedule
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, yet committed to a team environment.
• Ability to remain positive and foster a positive work environment
• Ability to work with a variety of personalities; maintain a professional appearance, and represent the company in a professional manner.
• Must maintain a high level of confidentiality
