The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM is one of
Europe's most important independent research institutes in the fields of »Shaping and Functional Materials« and »Adhesive Bonding Technology and Surfaces«. We focus on research and development to provide our customers with reliable and application-oriented solutions. Products and technologies are primarily aimed at sectors that are particularly important for future viability: aviation, automotive, energy technology, maritime technologies, medical technology and life sciences. Around 700 highly qualified employees work together on specific projects and topics to realize this task.
Our »Coating Technology« department consists of over 30 employees, including scientists, technicians and engineers who work on various topics related to the development and application of coating systems. Current topics include the digitalization and automation of coating technology tasks, the development of special functional coating systems for niche applications, as well as the development and qualification of test methods and application technology services. Examples of our coating solutions include anti-ice coatings and anti-fouling coatings for maritime applications (for which we operate a storage station on Helgoland), permeation barriers (e.g., against hydrogen), coatings to minimize fluid friction, and many more.
The Fraunhofer IFAM is looking for a scientific employee as project manager for automation and coating technology at the Bremen.
What you will do
- Management of industry- and public-funded projects (development of research concepts, resource planning and coordination)
- Scientific responsibility of the pilot plant for digitized and automated surface technology including painting
- Design and conduct experiments in collaboration with a team of scientists and technicians
- Documentation of findings and presentation to customers and partners
- Acquisition of funding and publication of results in scientific journals or at relevant conferences and conventions
What you bring to the table
- University degree in process engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field
- Advantageous: Knowledge of automation, control technology, and robot programming
- High motivation to explore new topics
- A keen interest in the advancement of technologies
- Team spirit with excellent organizational and communication skills
- High degree of initiative, assertiveness, and commitment
- Independent, structured and precise working style
- Confident and articulate with customers
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- Familiarity with MS Office

- The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position is initially limited to three years and can also be filled part-time.
