SUMMARY:
We are currently seeking a Senior Staff Nurse to join our Inpatient Medicine team. This is a 0.9 FTE, Day/ Every other Weekend, 12 hr shift position.
Purpose of this Position: Within the context of the Hennepin Healthcare System Patient and Family Centered Care model, and under general supervision, the Senior Staff Nurse provides and coordinates complex nursing care by:
- Protecting, promoting, and optimizing health
- Preventing illness and injury
- Alleviating suffering through the treatment of the human response
- Partnering with the patient, the patient’s family, and significant others
- Documenting interventions and an individualized plan of care
- Advancing nursing professional practice
- Being a resource to the patient care area, role-modeling practice excellence, promoting evidence-based nursing practice, and facilitating innovation
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Senior Staff Nurse performs all functions of the Staff Nurse and the following additional functions:
- Assists in the development and implementation of nursing standards, policies, and procedures
- Seeks and shares new knowledge in area of clinical expertise
- Supports and develops strategies to create, sustain and nurture patient and family centered care
- Provides expert clinical knowledge
- Serves as a resource to other clinical staff, and provides nursing consultation to other units
- Provides unit / department leadership through work as a charge nurse
- Serves as a preceptor and provides leadership for educational processes on unit
- Identifies re-occurring patient care issues, collaborates with leadership to postulate possible solutions, and works with the Nursing Manager on implementation of change
- Supports the organizational mission and key priorities and assures continuity of unit work with
organizational initiatives through the Annual Plan - Champions patient safety initiatives
- Accepts projects and/or change management assignments from nurse/clinic manager supporting the change through evidenced-based practice
- Serves as a member of the nursing leadership team
