Pay for interns still completing an undergraduate degree will be paid an hourly wage of $25.00 per hour while those currently enrolled in a graduate program will receive an hourly wage of $30.00 per hour.

 

ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible, students must be enrolled in an accredited technical degree program or pursuing an advanced degree. Due to timeliness and our necessary compliance with obtaining government approved authorizations, consideration is limited to those students currently eligible to work in the United States per 10 CFR Part 810 rules, and we are unable to consider students authorized to work on F-1 or M-1 Visas.

 

POSITION SUMMARYThe majority of our technical internships are ongoing throughout the academic year, with schedules that align with individual class schedules to ensure education remains a priority.  Interns will have the ability to increase to 40 hours/week during the summer.  Since we employ interns from all over the country, work may be fully remote, or we can accommodate those from local colleges and universities who prefer to work in either our Corvallis, OR or Houston, TX office locations.  The successful candidate will be currently enrolled in an accredited engineering program and will work in close collaboration with NuScale engineers to complete a range of general engineering efforts. These efforts may include preparation of engineering deliverables to support areas such as: Manufacturing & Procurement Engineering, Systems Engineering, Nuclear Analysis & Thermal-Hydraulics, Refueling & Remote Handling, Civil/Structural Engineering, Radiological Engineering, NSSS System Analysis, NSSS Component Engineering, NSSS Piping & Integration, and Research & Development (R&D). This position requires self-motivated students skilled at working and learning through remote platforms (e.g., video, phone, email).

 

EXAMPLE ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Assist engineers in performing engineering studies, reports, drawings, calculations, and design documents in areas including probabilistic risk assessment, core design and reactor physics, core or system thermal-hydraulics, and fuel thermal-mechanical analysis and methods
  2. Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, processes, and criteria in preparation of engineering deliverables
  3. Conduct analysis to support development of various Engineering methodologies and software
  4. Assist with the development of licensing reports as required for different regulatory processes
  5. Support supplier qualification, technical evaluations, and procurement documentation
  6. Assist in system requirements development and traceability
  7. Support interface control and configuration management activities
  8. Support design and analysis of refueling systems and fuel handling equipment
  9. Assist with seismic, structural, and anchorage analyses
  10. Perform finite element modeling and structural load assessments
  11. Support radiation protection analysis, dose modeling, source term development, radiological consequence analysis
  12. Support design and qualification of reactor pressure vessel internals and major components
  13. Evaluate system interactions and operational transients
  14. Assist with piping layout design and stress analysis
  15. Support pipe support and seismic qualification activities
  16. Support advanced reactor technology innovation initiatives
  17. Contribute to design improvements and performance optimization studies
  18. Use open, honest communications when managing work activities, ensuring clarity of task assigned and resulting high quality workmanship and an attention to detail
  19. Contribute to detailed instructions in the area
