Job Description
Position Summary:
The Director, Finance will be part of Brookfield’s Corporate team and will report into the SVP, Finance. Located in our head office in Downtown Toronto, the Director, Finance role is a highly visible position that provides a progressive and dynamic career as well as exposure to senior leadership. The Director, Finance will be responsible for the financial planning and reporting for a group of listed issuers, including an investment holding company with principal investments in Brookfield’s various securities, as well as the Brookfield Foundation. The Director, Finance will also support investor relations and compliance of listed issuers as well as audit committee and board reporting. There is also opportunity to provide leadership and mentorship to a growing team of senior/corporate accountants and interns.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities for this position would include, among other things:
• Responsible for the preparation and filing of the public issuers’ consolidated financial statements and public documents on a quarterly and annual basis, including the press release and MD&A;
• Present various analyses and reports for senior management, such as operating metrics, corporate financial results and ad-hoc analyses to support their business decision-making;
• Support quarterly audit committee and board reporting with opportunity for increasing visibility and responsibility at meetings;
• Responsible for recurring analyses including cash flow forecast, NAV calculations, and equity instrument redemptions;
• Lead the resolution of complex technical accounting issues, including the coordination with auditors;
• Lead the execution of transactions including substantial issuer bids, prospectuses, and re-financings for the public issuers;
• Respond to the business and finance inquiries from internal/external stakeholders of the listed issuers;
• Review and manage the work of junior team members and provide mentorship to them;
• Continuously look for efficiency in our processes, tools and reports and make suggestions to implement these into our framework;
• Lead special projects and ad-hoc analyses as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
• Minimum of seven years of progressive work experience in an accounting or auditing function;
• A recognized professional accounting designation (CPA);
• Experience with public company reporting requirements under IFRS;
• Strong financial systems experience, including advanced Excel skills;
• Leadership and interpersonal skills, and the willingness to always support the team;
• Highly organized and able to work in a dynamic, complex and fast-paced environment, as well as adapt quickly to manage changing priorities and deadlines;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Self-motivated and pro-active, with respect to both managing workload and professional development.
