POSITION SUMMARY
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is adding a Temporary Recreation Assistant to the team! This position will be based at Eastway Regional Recreation Center and will assist with planning and directing recreation and leisure programs, activities, and events for children ages 2 to 6 years old in our Child Watch program. This includes but is not limited to child supervision, activity engagement, safety and incident response as well as ensuring a positive customer experience for all visitors. In addition, this role may also assist with activities and events in other program areas as needed. This role will be crucial in ensuring a welcoming, secure, and engaging environment that supports positive experiences for families and aligns with Mecklenburg County’s youth-serving standards. Child Watch operates on a structured schedule to meet family needs, Monday-Thursday (8:00am-12:00pm and 4:30pm-7:30pm), Friday (8:00am-12:00pm), and Saturday (9:00am-12:00pm) and the selected candidate’s schedule will be scheduled within those times based upon program needs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Professional experience and/or completed coursework in early childhood education and/or recreation highly preferred
•Activity programming experience for pre-school/early elementary school populations
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•Provide customer service and handling of funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, web site, social media and walk in patrons and customers for information, program registration, center daily use and rentals
•Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary
•Enforce rules and regulations
•Collect fees and taking registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals
•Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas
•Referee at various sports activities; provide services as timekeeper, scorekeeper or line-person at games
•Assist with various recreational programs for all ages
•Handle inquiries and complaints from public
•Assist with special events and field trips
