As New-Indy Continues to grow, we are seeking a strategic and hands-on Sustainability Manager to lead Sustainable initiatives across our  paper mill and packaging services. This role will drive compliance, innovation, and continuous improvement in sustainability performance—ensuring alignment with corporate goals, regulatory requirements, and stakeholder expectations. The position will focus on creation, improvement and opportunities within the New-Indy Containerboard and packaging divisions to create sustainability, efficiency and reduce the facilities’ environmental impacts.

This position is located on-site in Rancho Cucamonga, California

What you’ll do:

Sustainability Strategy & Execution

Develop and implement site-level sustainability plans aligned with corporate ESG goals
Lead initiatives to reduce carbon footprint, water usage, waste generation, and energy consumption
Monitor and report on sustainability KPIs, including GHG emissions, effluent discharge, and fiber sourcing.
Implement processes and monitor sustainability compliance policies, procedures and best practices for New-Indy Containerboard mills and packaging business sectors.
Manage, train and ensure compliance including sustainability requirements, processes and procedures and best business practices.
Lead the development and implementation of effective sustainability management program.

Compliance & Risk Management

Work with Corporate and Mill Environmental Management to   ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, Clean Water Act, air permits)
Collaborate with operations to ensure best practices in chemical handling, wastewater treatment, and air quality control
Assist with third party audit program including tracking performance, cost management, quality and environmental assurance.

Sustainable Sourcing & Supply Chain

Support responsible fiber sourcing and chain-of-custody certifications (e.g., FSC, PEFC)
Work with procurement to evaluate supplier sustainability performance
Promote circular economy principles and recycled content integration

Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting

Prepare sustainability disclosures for internal and external stakeholders (e.g., CDP, GRI, Ecovadis , SASB, etc.)
Serve as the liaison across all sustainability areas. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and departments on all manufacturing related issues and reports.
Assist ESG reporting for the mill and packaging operations including input into Sustainability Reports.
Lead employee engagement programs around sustainability awareness and stewardship
Collect, analyze data and report performance progress on sustainability performance indicators related to New-Indy Sustainability policy and commitments, including the 2030 AF&PA Goals for New-Indy Mills and Packaging facilities.
Represent the company in industry forums and community outreach initiatives

 
What You'll Need:

Education & Experience


Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Engineering, Environmental Science emphasis in Sustainability, forestry or related field (Master’s preferred)
3-5+ years of experience in sustainability or environmental compliance, preferably in pulp & paper or heavy manufacturing
Strong knowledge of Sustainability Management  frameworks


Skills & Competencies


Excellent project management and cross-functional collaboration skills
Track record of developing and implementing sustainability initiatives.
Proactive and with the ability to think creatively and work independently
Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and data interpretation abilities
Effective communicator with ability to influence at all levels


Would be nice to have:


LEED Green Associate or AP
Certified Sustainability Practitioner (CSR-P)
Proficient in Microsoft office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
FSC Chain-of-Custody Certification experience

Pay Transparency: The starting annual salary for this position ranges from $115,000 to $130,000 annually.
