About the role

The Team

The Mersey Community Hospital, Latrobe has 95 beds and offers general and specialist health services including 24-hour emergency department, general medicine, day surgery and endoscopy, rehabilitation, palliative care and day oncology services along with a variety of specialist clinics. Mersey Community Hospital is a dedicated elective surgery centre and provides a mixture of general hospital services. The hospital has close ties with the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School and with TAFE Tasmania thus providing opportunities for comprehensive clinical training programs.  All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

  • Specialties provided include Dental Surgery, Gynaecology, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, and Endoscopy.
  • Experience is not mandatory but highly desirable.

  • Provide an efficient sterilisation and decontamination services to the Mersey Community Hospital (MCH)

The Role

As a member of the health care team, the Sterilising Department Technician:

  • Decontaminates, packages, sterilises and distributes reusable medical devices (RMDs) for the Operating Theatre and other specialist and general areas.
  • Maintains a clean and hygienic environment to facilitate the control of infection in the Central Sterilising Department (CSD).

Details of appointment

Permanent part time, day worker position, working 44 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as you can join our team!

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary

$76,849 to $82,996 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Certificate III in Sterilisation Services, from an approved educational institution or equivalent

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Knowledge and or previous experience in working within a health care setting.
