About the role

Job Summary:

Provides technical leadership on large projects to lead communications and knowledge management within various areas of specialization, which may include capacity strengthening, gender, nutrition, education, social and behavior change (SBC), malaria, HIV, reproductive health, etc. Establishes and continually refines technical frameworks, approaches, tools, and activities for a project, using their excellent leadership and writing skills to showcase project performance and learning directly and via mentorship of country and/or regional technical staff. Identifies specialized partnership needs, engages qualified partners to ensure technical performance. Monitors all technical aspects of a project related to communications and knowledge management from initiation through delivery and leads dissemination efforts, ensuring quality control. Ensures completion of project technical and communications deliverables and products are on schedule and within budget constraints. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure technical objectives are met. Contributes project experience and learning to global thought leadership initiatives in specific area(s) of technical specialization.

Accountabilities:

  • Serves as the technical lead for communications and knowledge management for a large project.

  • Leads and supervises the technical operational and tactical activities for the project’s activities in this area.

  • Ensures high quality technical communication deliverables and knowledge products—including workplan contributions, and annual report highlights, dissemination activities, communication strategies, branding and marketing plans, style guides, etc. are developed, submitted, and approved on schedule and within budget parameters.

  • Develops and implements processes, trainings, and procedures to achieve strategic technical goals of the role.

  • Provides direction to ensure technical activities are compliant with client agreements, government regulations and the organization’s policies and procedures.

  • Responds to requests and questions on technical matters of expertise and ensures timely drafts and submissions of consents, approvals and/or waivers.

  • Manages the relationship with all subcontracted organizations on a project on related technical matters.

  • Promotes project success by collecting, writing, and distributing success stories, case studies, photos, and outreach at events.

  • Attends informative events related to the subject matter or region of a project to network and learn information that could be valuable to project activities.

  • Directs and guides managers, and staff with training and developing process improvement initiatives to ensure compliance with company and government standards in their respective area.

  • Supports performance management and professional development of direct reports, including ongoing feedback, coaching and career support.

  • Engages in writing publications and may contribute to developing proposals for new projects.

  • Identifies and consults with executive management on technical recommendations to make better business decisions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
