What you’ll be doing:

• Lead research efforts to solve critical issues in one of the key AV sub-areas, e.g. perception, prediction, or planning.
• Know the state-of-the-art in these areas and suggest innovative solutions to leaders across the organization.
• Implement research ideas, conduct experiments and summarize results and findings.
• Build collaborative relationships with stakeholder teams and oversee smooth tech transfers and eventual deployment on Cruise’s AVs.
• Follow and understand progress and trends from academia, and extend them to Cruise’s problems.
• Nurture junior members on the team. Help them grow within the organization.
• Lead efforts to publish at top-tier conferences and journals.
• Attract more top talents in the industry to join us.

What you must have:

• Strong research publications in top conferences or journals across several domains of interest to the AV.
• Strong expertise in machine learning / computer vision / graphics / robotics / planning / simulation.
• Track record of driving ML research projects from start to completion, including conception, problem definition, experimentation, iteration, and finally publication or productization.
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

The salary range for this position is $234,700 - 345,000. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
