The Columbia, SC office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking an experienced Environmental Field Technician to join our environmental department and growing practice. We are looking for a motivated and dedicated professional with attention to detail, a passion to continually develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team. The position provides excellent long-term professional opportunities for candidates to develop their technical, project management, client service, and business development skills to advance their careers.
Job Responsibilities:
- Execute environmental field work including site reconnaissance, subsurface exploration, monitoring well installation, soil sampling, groundwater sampling, surface water sampling, air/vapor sampling and monitoring/remediation activities
- Manage and coordinate activities of other less experienced field personnel
- Coordinate field activities with environmental subcontractors
- Executing environmental field work using tablets
- Documenting field work on all appropriate logs, field sheets and forms
- Use environmental monitoring equipment in the field
- Perform hazardous building materials surveys such as asbestos inspections and lead inspections
- Prepare test boring logs during drilling and perform field logging during other subsurface exploration or well installation
- QA/QC field data and components of report deliverables
Required Skills/Experience:
- High school diploma or Associate Degree
- 4+ years of field experience in: environmental science, geology or hydrogeology
- Excellent oral communication skills
- Positive attitude
- Ability to multi-task
- Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments that may last a few weeks away from the office
- Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches per applicable OSHA standards, climb ladders to access elevated spaces and building rooftops, and work outside in potentially challenging weather conditions
Desired Skills/Experience:
- Environmental remediation system operation and maintenance preferred
- Mechanically inclined is a plus
- Asbestos Inspector certification preferred
- Lead Inspector certification preferred
The compensation range for an Engineering Technician is between $19.55/hr to $26.45/hr. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location
